Talking to Basics
Documentation
 What?
 Feedback based on
performance
 How?
 ID errors
 Determine root causes
 Reflection on instruction
 When?
 Timely manner
 “Sortie isn’t over until the grade
book is done”
Types of BCT Documentation
 Daily (Replacing Form 200)
 Nightly discussion of performance
 Scored each night 0-5 Scale
 Weekly (Replacing Form 200-1)
 Weekly discussion of aptitude to serve as officer and cadet
 Pass/Fail
 On Demand
 341s (still paper, Emailed to A1 each night)
Spot corrections
 AF 174, LOA, LOC, LOR
Progressive discipline
Forms: AFCW 341, 200, 200-1
BCT 341s from 2017
 Good:
 Failed to stay awake in A-Hall after repeated cadre corrections
 Failed to execute proper MH (Mitchell Hall) decorum despite
repeated instruction over 3 meals
 Interesting:
 Failed at locks and life
 Doing Great
 Not Helpful:
 Fix u face 
 Stop it
BCT 200-1s from 2017
 Good:
 Trying to improve knowledge and fitness, keep at it. K-Test score of
88% this week.
 Failed the PFT for the second time, continues to give up when PT is
difficult and fails to learn from mistakes. You need to gear up for Jacks
Valley and spend time thinking about your motivation and goals.
 Not Helpful:
 On a Form 18 and didn’t do anything. Looking forward to academic
year.
 Here for his Colonel dad and continues to want to go home. Should
be allowed to leave.
 Can’t even do the PT card requirements. Try more next time.
Documentation Goals
 Clear
 What is the violation or deviation from standard
 Would someone else understand what I wrote and give it the same
emphasis?
 Concise
 Appropriate description for the type of documentation used
 Are the necessary details added? Is the context clear?
 Actionable
 Know what to change
 If I received this from someone, could I use it to change my behavior?
 If I received this, would it be helpful?
Recommendations
 Practice
 Build Templates
 Share good write ups, you will have common errors
Technique
 Profile: List what happened this week.
 Strengths: 1, 2, 3
 Weaknesses: 1, 2, 3
 Recommended Improvement Areas (RIA): 1, 2, 3 … typically relates
to the weaknesses

Electronic
Documentation in
BCT
CAO 21 JUN 18
Start with Why!
 Electronic CPR-IIs…avoid scanning
 BCT Form 200 (BCT Record of Performance) …58 initials, needs
automation
 BCT Form 200-1 (Counseling Record)…handwriting, missing critical
details
 Military Training 100 Student Grade Card…vast majority missing
grades/comments, no data aggregate
 Over 15 trackers used in BCT 2017 to record blues issue, CAC issue,
security clearances, intramurals, and other things
 Program needed a way to consolidate data collection without relying
on GroupMe and email taskers sent to the wrong people
The Challenge
 Document
 BCT Syllabus completion
 BCT Major Graded Areas
 USAF required training
 USAFA admin
 Validate that each basic cadet has met the
requirements and…
 Provide Trend/Comparison Data
 Allow cadre to focus on content/quality of
documentation
 Stop wasting time with admin that
computers should be doing
