This case study describes the design and construction of an acoustic enclosure for two vacuum pumps and motor sets located outdoors at a manufacturing facility. The 6m x 2.4m x 3m enclosure was manufactured as a single piece for craned installation. It was designed to withstand weather exposure for 15 years, include double access doors and ventilation system, and match the facility's color scheme. The enclosure aims to provide noise control for the pumps and a safe working environment while allowing normal equipment operation.

Case Study
Acoustic Enclosure for `2 No. Vac Pump & Motor Sets'
Process Details: An acoustic enclosure for `2 No. Vacuum Pumps & Motor Sets' for a building services
contractor with ongoing installation works at a UK based manufacturing and assembly facility operated by a
global defence, aerospace and security company.
Scope of Work: To design, manufacture and deliver the required enclosure, this being of approximate overall
dimensions 6.0m long x 2.4m deep x 3.0m high.
Design Considerations: -
• The enclosure is to be manufactured and transported as a one piece 'drop-over' unit, for a craned
installation over existing plant & equipment, and onto a prepared foundation and access rampart.
• The unit requiring a set of double man-access doors to facilitate operator entry & emergency exit, and the
removal of one or two of the larger items of plant and equipment, for their periodic overhaul elsewhere.
• The enclosure, located outdoors, to be capable of withstanding prolonged exposure to adverse weather
conditions without damage, with a minimum design life of 15 years.
• Over-cladding (in the end users corporate colour scheme to maintain the aesthetic appeal of the facility
overall) to the walls and roof to facilitate rain-water run-off to predetermined drainage points (guttering,
down-pipes, pipe accessories all inclusive), thus providing a dry and safe working environment for the
housed plant and equipment, and operations and maintenance personnel.
• Forced extract ventilation system with separate air inlet & outlet attenuators situated internally (complete
with all ducting & transition pieces etc. and the necessary grilles, bird meshed weather louvres and roof
mounted terminal cowl) to ensure that the temperature rise inside the enclosure is acceptable and allows
the housed equipment to operate in a normal manner whilst maintaining the overall acoustic integrity of the
housing.
Acoustic Performance: To be confirmed.
