Henry Ford was born in 1863 in Michigan and grew up on a farm, but left at a young age to pursue his own career. He invented the Quadricycle and helped develop steam and combustion engines. Ford also created the Model T car and the assembly line, which reduced the time to assemble a car from 14 hours to just 1 hour and 33 minutes. By 1918, half of all cars in America were Model Ts. Ford suffered a stroke in 1938 but recovered and continued running the company until his death in 1943. Today, Ford Motor Company owns brands like Mazda, Aston Martin, Volvo, and Jaguar, and the assembly line Ford pioneered is still used widely in automotive manufacturing.

Ken Miles was a British racing driver and engineer who had great success in the US. He played a key role in developing the Shelby Cobra and helped Ford win races. In 1966 he was leading the 24 Hours of Le Mans but was ordered to slow down for a publicity photo. That year he died testing a Ford prototype at Riverside Raceway when the car flipped at high speed and caught fire.
