2. We were all
saddened by the
passing of Stan Lee,
the legendary comic
book artist and
co-creator of some
of pop culture’s
most enduring
superheroes.
3. We have chosen some business tips
from some Stan Lee´s newspapers
interviews.
4.
5. Don't quit before you try it your way!
On the verge of quitting his job, Stan Lee´s wife Joan advised him to
"write one [comic] book the way you'd like to" instead of only
listening to then-publisher Martin Goodman. Joan told her husband,
"'Get it out of your system. The worst thing that will happen is he'll
fire you — but you want to quit anyway.'"
Lee took his wife up on that challenge and created The Fantastic
Four, a group of superheroes to rival DC Comics' Justice League.
6.
7. Ignore negativity!
Lee was in the comic books business for so long that he
saw (and helped drive) the medium's evolution from
derided tabloids to a unique and beloved form of
literature. One piece of advice he shared in 2013, in an
interview with The Globe and Mail, was "don't listen to
the poo-poo-ers."
8.
9. Stay humble!
Some of the best advice Lee said he ever received came
from a teacher when he was only "12 or 13," Lee told
Men's Journal in 2014.
"Next to my name, the teacher wrote, 'The greatest are
the humblest.' I don't know why she picked me to write
that for, but it always stuck with me," Lee said.
10.
11. Create empathy in the audience!
“To have an idea is the easiest thing in the world.
Everybody has ideas. But you have to take that idea and
make it into something people will respond to and that’s
hard.”
12.
13. Acknowledge your power in people’s lives
“I used to be embarrassed because I was just a comic-book writer
while other people were building bridges or going on to medical
careers. And then I began to realize: Entertainment is one of the
most important things in people’s lives. Without it, they might go
off the deep end. I feel that if you’re able to entertain, you’re doing
a good thing.”
14.
15. Coming up with a title is tough!
“It’s a tremendous challenge, because there have been so
many characters created over the years. Every time you think
you come up with a great name, you find out somebody has
already done it. Dreaming up the stories isn’t that hard, but
coming up with a good title is the toughest part.”
16.
17. And, finally, from the mouth of the
iconic Spiderman, remember, “With
great power comes great
responsibility.”
