2. PROFILE:
2.1 Anton Bakker is an acting Judge of the Labour Court of South Africa.
2.2 Anton Bakker graduated with a Masters degree in Labour Law from the Potchefstroom
University [now University of North-West] in 2000. He received the degrees B.Proc and
LLB from the same competent authority in 1998 and 1999 respectively. In 1999 he
participated in an international legal programme and was accepted as an exchange
student at the Katholieke University Leuven in Belgium. During this exchange
programme his focus was on Labour Law giving him the opportunity to participate in the
activities of the International Labour Orgnisation in Geneva, Switzerland.
2.3 Anton takes pride in efficiency and professionalism that contributed to his successes.
He has good people relations and social skill, evident whereof his appointment as a
part-time lecturer at the University of Pretoria as part of their Certificate in Advanced
Labour Law. He has examined many theses of Masters Students at higher education
institutions across South Africa.
2.4 Anton is contracted by the Law Society of South Africa to lecture on the principles of
South African Labour Legislation. He provides training to candidate attorneys at most
major Universities in Gauteng.
2.5 Anton has completed the Certificate in Pension Funds Law at the UNISA Centre for
Business Law and recently done an Advanced Certificate in Admin Law at the Mandela
Institute School of Law, University of Witwatersrand. Both qualifications were obtained
by Anton cum laude.
2.6 Anton Bakker Incorporated is an active member of the South African Society for Labour
Law which brings together a wide range of people active in labour law and labour

relations in South Africa, and who have an interest in the practice of labour law. Joanna
Withaar, an associate at Anton Bakker Attorneys serves on the SASLAW Committee for
the Gauteng Chapter.
2.7 We are an accredited member of the AHI Employer’s Organisation. This enables us to
participate in the collective bargaining processes at a national level. Through our
affiliation with BUSA we also participate at NEDLAC which are the main originator of
labour legislation in South Africa. For several years now, Anton has served as a Board
Member of the AHI Employer’s Organisation. Anton Bakker Attorneys are the preferred
attorneys for the National Employers’ Organisation of South Africa (NEASA), arguably
one of the largest organisations of its sort in South Africa. Anton Bakker Inc. is
extremely proud to represent more than 30 000 employers collectively with an array of
employment law issues.
2.8 We appointed Joanna Withaar as a Professional Assistant in August 2013. She was
promoted to the position of Associate in May 2015. In February 2012, Joanna was
admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa. She received the degrees
BCom and LLB from the University of Pretoria in 2007 and 2009 respectively. Joanna
was employed by a commercial company as a legal advisor from March 2012 to July
2013, drafting commercial agreements. She is currently enrolled in and studying
towards her LLM in Labour Law at the University of Pretoria. Joanna has a special
interest in collective bargaining and retrenchments.
2.9 We appointed Hardus Lee as a Senior Associate in January 2015. Hardus has achieved
degrees in B.Com (Law) and LLB at the University of Pretoria in 1999 and 2001
respectively. After completing his studies, he articled and worked as a Professional
Assistant at Serfontien, Viljoen & Swart Attorneys which is where he was first introduced
to the world of labour law. After he was admitted in 2005, Hardus pursued a more
specialised experience in the field of industrial relations and labour law legislation while
working for an employer’s organisation. In 2008, he joined Snyman Attorneys, first as an
Associate and then later as a Director, where he specialised in Labour Law. Hardus
bring with him his inherent knowledge and expertise of the labour industry.

2.10 We are in good standing with a battery of highly skilled counsel who specialise in labour
and related litigation, and who are always on standby to assist with inter alia urgent
court proceedings interdicting illegal strikes or protest action. The team at Anton Bakker
