transportation industry but owns no fleet of
transportation. Revenue of $6.5 billion dollars per

5. What is digitalisation
 In simple terms, it is the computerisation of systems and jobs for better ease and
accessibility.
 Becoming more technical, it is the integration digital technologies into everyday life by the
digitisation of everything that can be digitised.
 Digital technologies are electronic tools, systems, devices and resources that generate,
store or process data. Examples include social media, online gaming, online job
applications, productivity applications, cloud computing and digital currency (AKA crypto
currency (Bitcoin)).

6. Impact of digitalisation on the Job market
 I tend to believe that there are high level skills that cannot be replaced by
machines in the near future.
 Although digitalisation replaces human work capabilities with machines, it also
introduces new high level skills, for example:
 Cyber controllers or IT security controllers.
 Labour to control and initiate machinery duties.
 Those who monitor machine performance and efficiency.
To contradict my first statement, digitalisation has had a severe impact on the South
African job market as studies have shown that a single machine can perform work
done by almost 10 individuals in the manufacturing industry.

7. Benefits arising from digitalisation
 New high level or technical skills due to tapping into a new market that never
existed before.
 Since record keeping is automated company records may be kept indefinitely on
the cloud.
 Information flows quicker from company to clients. Best marketing tool for
companies in all industries.
 Reduction in marketing costs.
 Improves globalisation. All countries connected in an instant.

8. Globalisation and Digitalisation
 Globalisation is the action or procedure of international integration of countries
arising from the conversion of world views, products, ideas, and other aspects of
culture. The exchanging of valuable information amongst countries.
 Digitalisation has made it easy for international countries to exchange such
information quickly and easy. It is now easily accessible due to advanced
technology.

9. Valuation of digital companies
 Number users who use the platform determine the net value of the company. There is a direct
relationship between value and usage. The same principle applies.
 Number of users:
 FACEBOOK = 1.94 billion active users for month of March 2017.
 UBER = 40 million active users / not sure about the number of drivers.
 BITCOIN = User network grew from 120 000 in 2013 to 6.5 million users in 2017.
 Net Value:
 FACEBOOK = $190 Billion networth.

 What about banking industry and telecommunications companies such as the
