2. Setting
Place: Small Kansas city, 30 miles west
of Kansas City, in a street corner
restaurant
 Time: One A.M on a early morning in the
beginning of March in 1955
 Season: Winter, Blizzard outside


3. Theme
Friendship: The friendship seen between
Bo Decker, and Virgil is very apparent in
the play. Virgil takes on more of a fathering
role toward Bo, and try’s to advise him not
to do certain things.
 Transformation: The evolution of the
character Bo is seen throughout the play.
In the beginning Bo is immature, and “hardheaded” but soon conforms to Cherie’s
love, and begins to mature, at the end of
the play.


Elma: Youngest of the waitresses, intelligent, high
school student
Grace: Owner of restaurant, around age 40 years old
Dr. Gerald Lyman: former college
professor, intellectual, drinking issue
Bo Decker: youngest rancher, and cowboy
Virgil Blessing: Oldest rancher, father-like figure to
Bo
Cherie: Young, night-life performer, and singer, rough
childhood
Carl: Bus driver, wanting a relationship with Grace
Will Masters: Local sheriff, strict Christian morals
