RULE #1
Do not pass our business cards
with reckless abandon.
Have an intent for a next
conversation.
This is how you turn
connections into relationships
and grow your business.

Step #1
When someone hands you a
business card, hold in your
hand until the conversation is
over.
The information on the card
can be useful during the
conversations.

Step #2
When you return to your office,
manually enter the business
contact information into your
Personal Contact system.
Google Apps or Outlook, again,
your Personal contact
system. These connections
are your personal connections.

Step #3
If you work for another
company, enter this business
card information into their
contact management system
(business email or CRM
system). If you are networking
for business, this information is
for the company as well. This is
why they sent you networking.

Step #4
Send your new connection an
email and ask for that next
conversation or meeting. This
is why we network, connect
and collect business cards.
Otherwise, you are just a
business card collector.

Step #5
Look on LinkedIn for your new
contact. If they have a profile
send them an invite to connect.
Remember to use the personal
note field.
The more places you can
connect with your network, the
better you can grow the
relationship.

Step #6
Throw away the business card.
If you have access to your
contact via smart phone, Ipad,
laptop or through any web
browser, you have access to
your contacts information
24x7x365. If you don’t, you
need help. This is critical.

Summary
Have a purpose and plan for
using the business cards you
collect while networking.
Do not become a business
card collector. Use them as
stepping stones to relationships
that can grow your business &
career.
