According to a report from the Maryland State Department of Education, reported bullying incidents in Maryland schools increased significantly from 2007-2008 to 2009-2010 school year, with 3,818 incidents reported in 2009-2010. The highest reports came from Baltimore city, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George's counties. Over 60% of incidents involved teasing, name-calling, or threats while over 30% involved physical acts like hitting or kicking. Most incidents occurred on school property, followed by the school bus, with motives including just being mean or trying to impress others.
