Buckminster is a build and component management tool that can materialize and build Eclipse RCP applications both inside and outside of the Eclipse workspace. It handles transitive dependencies by materializing all prerequisite components when building. Components can come from various sources like SVN repositories, update sites, and files. Buckminster uses metadata like CSPECs to understand components and can extend this using CSPEXs. It defines attributes and actions to produce artifacts and includes built-in actions for bundles, features, and products.

Pinterest has hundreds of Amazon EC2 virtual servers and uses Puppet Dashboard as the “source of truth” about its server inventory. Pinterest built a REST API for this database, which powers tools and automated scripts that integrate Puppet with internal systems and with Amazon Web Services.
Speaker Bio: Ryan Park leads operations and infrastructure at Pinterest, one of 2012’s fastest growing web sites. Pinterest’s entire infrastructure is in the cloud, built atop hundreds of Amazon EC2 virtual server instances. Ryan introduced Puppet to their infrastructure as soon as he joined the company, and they now use Puppet as the primary tool for managing their infrastructure. Prior to joining Pinterest, Ryan was the Head of Operations at PBworks, an online team collaboration service.

Intro to React
eact is a library for building HTML user interfaces. It is the "view" in a Model-View-Controller application. Created by the UI wizards at Facebook, top websites like Instagram, Netflix, Airbnb, Bleacher Report and Feedly use it. React is the 6th most starred project on GitHub and grows more popular every day.
In this two-day workshop, we will introduce you to React. On the first day, we will work through a series of increasingly more complicated tutorial exercises. Along the way, we will explain concepts like JSX, immutability, statefulness, one-way data flow, components, and virtual DOM.
With the basics out of the way, we will spend the second-day building a complex application which will put React through its paces and give us a chance to explore most of its features. Then we will learn how to think in React. We will show you how to go from design to components to working application. We will wrap the weekend with a quick preview of React Native, which allows you to use your React skills to create cross-platform mobile apps.

Splitting an app up in different processes is great for performance and scalability. The downside, however, is that it becomes much more complicated to get the app and all of its parts running.
Foreman is an attempt to make this easier. Using foreman you can declare the various processes that are needed to run your application using a Procfile.

Testing Ember Apps: Managing Dependency
Ember has an amazing testing story built upon the fundamentals of encapsulation and OO programming central to the framework. Despite this, every web application will be dependent upon and need to interact with native and network APIs that are hostile: Unreliable, slow, under-documented, and not to be trusted. The challenge in testing Ember applications lies with how to handle these external entities.

Demystifying Maven
Given at TechMaine's Java Users Group on Feb 26 2008
Why do we need another build tool when we already have Ant? By focusing on convention over configuration, Maven allows you to declaratively define how your project is built, which reduces a lot of the procedural code that you'd need to implement in every build file if you were using Ant. This, along with Maven's built-in management of repositories for project dependencies, allows you to streamline your build process. Ultimately Maven can reduce the amount of time that would otherwise be wasted hunting down jar files and fiddling with boilerplate build scripts.
This presentation covers Maven's core concepts. It introduces the Plugin architecture, and explain how the most popular plugins are used. It also covers the POM concept and how it relates to dependency tracking and repositories.

Demystifying Maven
Given at TechMaine's Java Users Group on Feb 26 2008
Why do we need another build tool when we already have Ant? By focusing on convention over configuration, Maven allows you to declaratively define how your project is built, which reduces a lot of the procedural code that you'd need to implement in every build file if you were using Ant. This, along with Maven's built-in management of repositories for project dependencies, allows you to streamline your build process. Ultimately Maven can reduce the amount of time that would otherwise be wasted hunting down jar files and fiddling with boilerplate build scripts.
This presentation covers Maven's core concepts. It introduces the Plugin architecture, and explain how the most popular plugins are used. It also covers the POM concept and how it relates to dependency tracking and repositories.

zkStudyClub - LatticeFold: A Lattice-based Folding Scheme and its Application...
Folding is a recent technique for building efficient recursive SNARKs. Several elegant folding protocols have been proposed, such as Nova, Supernova, Hypernova, Protostar, and others. However, all of them rely on an additively homomorphic commitment scheme based on discrete log, and are therefore not post-quantum secure. In this work we present LatticeFold, the first lattice-based folding protocol based on the Module SIS problem. This folding protocol naturally leads to an efficient recursive lattice-based SNARK and an efficient PCD scheme. LatticeFold supports folding low-degree relations, such as R1CS, as well as high-degree relations, such as CCS. The key challenge is to construct a secure folding protocol that works with the Ajtai commitment scheme. The difficulty, is ensuring that extracted witnesses are low norm through many rounds of folding. We present a novel technique using the sumcheck protocol to ensure that extracted witnesses are always low norm no matter how many rounds of folding are used. Our evaluation of the final proof system suggests that it is as performant as Hypernova, while providing post-quantum security.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).
From Natural Language to Structured Solr Queries using LLMs
This talk draws on experimentation to enable AI applications with Solr. One important use case is to use AI for better accessibility and discoverability of the data: while User eXperience techniques, lexical search improvements, and data harmonization can take organizations to a good level of accessibility, a structural (or “cognitive” gap) remains between the data user needs and the data producer constraints.
That is where AI – and most importantly, Natural Language Processing and Large Language Model techniques – could make a difference. This natural language, conversational engine could facilitate access and usage of the data leveraging the semantics of any data source.
The objective of the presentation is to propose a technical approach and a way forward to achieve this goal.
The key concept is to enable users to express their search queries in natural language, which the LLM then enriches, interprets, and translates into structured queries based on the Solr index’s metadata.
This approach leverages the LLM’s ability to understand the nuances of natural language and the structure of documents within Apache Solr.
The LLM acts as an intermediary agent, offering a transparent experience to users automatically and potentially uncovering relevant documents that conventional search methods might overlook. The presentation will include the results of this experimental work, lessons learned, best practices, and the scope of future work that should improve the approach and make it production-ready.
