Build a Solar Panel Phone Charger and Go Green!
Sun exists since mankind, but it has been recently viewed as a scientific object to power
everyday life. Solar chargers have become hugely popular in the recent years as they can replace
electricity with a natural source of energy. Solar panel phone charger uses the energy from
sunlight to charge the devices by converting the solar power into electrical energy.
The different components that combine together to form these chargers are as follows:
 The most essential component of the solar chargers is the solar panels through which the
sunlight is absorbed. These solar panels are made up of photovoltaic cells which allow
the production of electricity. The cells are durable and flexible as they are made from
either amorphous or crystalline silicon. Electricity is produced by the action of converting
photons to electrons.
 Batteries are generally cadmium or hydrogen with two terminals: positive and negative.
The electrolyte present in these batteries allows the electrons to flow from the negative
terminal through the connected device and back to positive terminal. This movement of
electrons in solar iPhone charger provides power for the device and hence helps to charge
the battery.
With appropriate connecting wires, all kinds of devices can be charged with these chargers with
ease. There are many advantages in charging the devices with solar power.
 These chargers are clean and quiet to use. They do not consume any fuel and hence they
are environment friendly.
 Charging devices and solar lanterns can be done with ease by placing the solar panels in
the sunlight.
 As the electricity generated is purely DC current, it prevents the batteries to discharge
repetitively. This helps to maximize the life of the batteries.
 The components present in these chargers allow the person to charge their device
anywhere and at anytime with just the presence of sunlight. They charge the devices
with electrical independence.
 As no fuel and no moving parts are involved in making these chargers work,
maintenance is very simple and easy. They do not contain any oil or filters that need to
be changed regularly in these chargers.
 Unlike the electric chargers, the volts emitted by the solar chargers are about 12 volts
with 30 amps. Hence the chance of getting electrocuted or shocks is very minimal. Using
these chargers is very safe and reliable.
Portable chargers come in a wide range of sizes and shapes. The recent technological
advancements have helped to create foldable solar panels which can charge the batteries much
sooner than the small panels.
