Civil War Men’s Fashion Men commonly wore white button down shirts with a jacket. Ties, handkerchiefs, and scarves, a.k.a neckwear. Gloves were also an often used accessory along with walking sticks, umbrellas, and top hats.
Women’s Fashion Before The Civil War Dresses were big and detailed. Had many different colors, but they were not bright. Women commonly wore bonnets and didn’t show much skin at all. Dresses were made with lots of fabric.
Women’s Fashion During the Civil War Women mostly wore dresses, styling depended on the occasion and time of day. Dresses were big, but simple Most dresses didn’t come in many colors. Materials were needed for soldier’s uniforms, so there wasn’t room for women to be really picky about what they wanted for their dresses.
Women’s Fashion After The civil War Dresses were very big with lots of bright colors. The dresses were made of elegant and expensive fabrics such as silk. Dresses were very intricate  Lots of fabric and lots of ruffles.
