2. Events Management Model
A study by events management expert determined that there are considerable
similarities between the management of project and the management of meetings,
incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE).
They believe that there are techniques from the project management
literature that can be applied by event professionals. These include:
• The use of work breakdown structures
• Identification of critical task and external dependence
• The use of Grantt chart
• Risk assessment
4. Project Management (PM) is a common
international Business term pertaining to the
use of accepted standards and practices. This
helps groups with multiple stakeholders to
work collaboratively in achieving business
goals.
Project Management Life Cycle
5. PM has become so widely acceptable in business where
an international organization for networking,
professional development, and organization of the body
of knowledge has been successfully undertaken by the
Project Management Institute (PMI), a global nonprofit
professional organization for project management in
Pennsylvania.
Pm as a process becomes necessary when a company realize any or all
of these parameters:
• The project to be undertaken is complex
• The project will occur in a dynamic environment.
• The project is subject to tight constraints.
• The project will be achieved through several discrete activities.
• The project will only be achieved if functional boundaries are
successfully crossed.
6. PROJECT MANAGEMENT LIFE CYCLE
PHASES:
Initiating – During this phase, the organization is critical in determining the purpose of the
event, identifying stakeholders, setting goals and objectives, and establishing the project team.
Planning – During this phase, the overall chairperson or project manager will develop profiles
of the event stakeholders, the PM plan, and a work breakdown structure.
Executing – This phase is characterized by the fulfillment of contracts. Many contracted services
are well-executed before an event (e.g., promotion, decoration, and transportation), while other
services occur during or after the event (e.g., shipping and financial management).
Controlling – This phase is important during the event, but may also be necessary as contracted
services unfold before the meeting or during the planning stage.
Closing – This phase is a crucial element in a project’s success. This determines whether the
company can attempt similar projects in the future. This phase begins immediately after the
event, and ends when all matters related to the event are complete.
