This document promotes an organization called ALCSE that works to educate Alabama students on renewable energy and sustainability through hands-on projects. It announces fellowship events to discuss clean energy. It describes educational programs and competitions around solar power, wind turbine blade design, energy efficiency in buildings, and an art/science contest focused on energy themes. The goal is to install over 310 megawatts of solar power in North Alabama.

3. Solar S.T.E.M.
How does solar power work? How does the sun’s movement and
seasonal changes affect the process? What about rainy days? Or
the shade from a tree? How much power can you make?
Students can learn all about solar power by using a kit from
ALCSE. The kit provides hands-on activities and all the
equipment needed to understand solar energy.

4. Switch Blade Competition
High school and college students use S.T.E.M. skills to design wind
turbine blades. Participants are given blades from a military wind
power system originally designed for the high-speed winds of
Afghanistan. Teams must redesign and manufacture blades for use
in the calmer breezes of Alabama. The team who generates the
most electricity wins.
