Composition of the GCLMPO
The GCLMPO is organized primarily by two boards
which govern us and helps shape projects for our tri-
county area. The GCLMPO’s Governing Board is com-
posed of elected officials from participating jurisdictions,
the area’s DOT representative and a advisory non-voting
member from FHWA. This board reviews proposed pro-
jects for the area and votes on the current plan enacted by
the GCLMPO. The second board over the GCLMPO is
the Technical Coordinating Committee (TCC). The TCC
is comprised of officials from participating jurisdictions,
NCDOT, FHWA, and other agencies interested in trans-
portation planning. The TCC is tasked with supervising
and coordinating the transportation planning process by
making technical recommendations to the Board. Sub-
committees are an essential component to what we do.
Subcommittees like the Bicycle-Pedestrian Subcommit-
tee. The Bicycle-Pedestrian Subcommittee, like many of
our subcommittees, targets specific areas within transpor-
tation, engages the community about what problems face
that area of transportation and provides a platform to
raise those concerns to officials.
How Do We Serve You?
The Gaston-Cleveland-Lincoln Metropolitan
Planning Organization serves the citizens of the
tri-county region in many ways. With important
projects like widening of I-85 and constructing
a bypass for Shelby US-74, the GCLMPO aims
to creating a safe and fast commute within the
region. Not only do we plan for the future, but
we also face the transportation challenges citi-
zens face today. The GCLMPO also offers pub-
lic transit through Gastonia Transit and other
affiliates. We work diligently with CATS to
provide our citizens ample opportunities to
reach areas of Charlotte for work and play.
Here at the GCLMPO, our main goal is to pro-
vide safe means of transportation while com-
mitting ourselves to creating smooth, operating
corridors that carry users to and from areas in
the quickest manner possible.
Who is the GCLMPO?
The Gaston-Cleveland-Lincoln Metropolitan
Planning Organization (GCLMPO) is the
agency in which has been tasked to plan and
monitor transportation system for the three
county area. The City of Gastonia, along with
its affiliate municipalities, provide services to
384,836 citizens spanning 1,140 square mile
area. These services range from planning facili-
ties for transportation like roadways, green-
ways and sidewalks, collecting data for poten-
tial projects, and helping diagnose problems
related to transportation. Together, with the
help of our municipality members, investing in
our transportation facilities creates opportuni-
ties for the future.
