Evaluation of adaptogenic activity of the fruit extractShaheena Shaik
This document evaluates the adaptogenic activity of fruit extracts of Phyllanthus emblica (Amla) and root extracts of Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha) using microorganisms. Microorganisms including E. coli, S. aureus, and Lactobacillus were exposed to stress through UV light in the presence of the extracts. Both extracts helped the microorganisms survive exposure to UV light stress as demonstrated by colony counts. Ashwagandha showed higher anti-stress effects than Amla, particularly for S. aureus and Lactobacillus. This study provides a novel method of evaluating adaptogen activity using microorganisms rather than animal models.
