patients who have been admitted in hospital for more than 24 hours.
 Inpatient Coding Certificate: AHIMA Certification: CCS (Certified Coding
Specialist) or RHIT/RHIA (Registered Health Information
Technician/Administrator), AAPC Certification: CPC-H (Certified
Professional Coder – Hospital), CIC (Certified Inpatient Coder).
 Inpatient hospital/facility coders should have expertise and knowledge in
assigning codes to specific procedures that were performed on the patient from
the time of admission to the end of the treatment.
 Financial transactions involved in inpatient hospital claim is higher than
outpatient setting. Hence, inpatient medical coders need higher training and
experience when compared to outpatient facility coders.
