Herman Miller Marketplace
Zeeland, Michigan
With the development of this 100,000 sf build-to-suite facility, Herman
Miller sought to consolidate four leases, align nine business units and
reduce operating costs. They asked for an environmentally sustainable
design that would dynamically balance community, collaboration and
individual needs with adaptability, effective space use and value.
The designers conducted client focus groups to establish general criteria
and used web based surveys to collect detailed information to develop
an all inclusive representation of needs. Collaborating with the
developer and base building architect ,the analysis ultimately influenced
the structure of the building for an “inside out” design and an innovation
solution that adapts to evolving needs.
Fifty five percent of the open design provides for individual workstations
with the remaining space designated for collaborative and flexible use,
an increase of 25% more collaborative/flexible space than previously
available. In addition, an initial savings of 34% over previous occupancy
costs was realized, with an ongoing savings of 41%
Awarded Leed Gold certification under the New Construction rating
system and recognized by the American Institute of Architects for its
sustainable design, the facility has become a significant part of the
Herman Miller customer experience and hosts regularly scheduled tours.

crosshatched Douglas Fir timbers and classic canopied arrival portico formally
welcome you to the heart of Snowmass. Within each of the eight private
residences, locally quarried, fine imported stone and rustic white oak are accented
by traditional furnishings and regionally inspired accents and artwork.
The Key Collection - Croft House
Drawing its name from Snowmass' ranching heritage, the Croft House is an exclusive
property with four residences located adjacent to the proposed village square.
With its alternating shingle and dormer rooflines, natural stone and board and
batten walls, and myriad windows, the Croft House's limited collection of four
residences possess the spirit and mannerisms of a luxurious mountain cabin. Each
home's interior palette showcases extensive wood selections-including alder,
walnut, oak and pine-complemented by sophisticated stonework, glass treatments
accented by nature's own hand, and classic furnishings invigorated by innovative
accent pieces and collectible artwork.
The Key Collection - Latigo Lofts
Named for the leather strap that connects saddle and cinch and the building's
connective location between Carriage House and Croft House-embody mountain
living that melds the old west with modern sophistication, right at the epicenter of
Base Village. Steps from the proposed village plaza's disappearing fountains and art
wall, these nine loft-inspired residences reinterpret the cowboy aesthetic.
Architectural and interior design elements reflect a blacksmith's workshop, an urban
warehouse, and an innovative fashion atelier. In select two-level lofts, a glass-railed
staircase and mezzanine provide a dramatic opening gesture; in every home,
furnishings feature clean lines and contemporary nods to the great outdoors. All
throughout, the cool glint of mixed metals juxtapose with warm woods, earthy
stone, and natural wool and hide.
