ING Annual Dinner Program: Is Freedom of Religion Becoming Fear of Religion?Islamic Networks Group
In an increasingly secular society, many people from younger generations are finding a tension between the secular assumptions of the world around them and their identity as adherents of religion. Fully one in four members of the Millennial generation – so called because they were born after 1980 and began to come of age around the year 2000 – are unaffiliated with any particular faith, are less likely to be affiliated than their parents' and grandparents' generations were when they were young, and currently attend church or worship services at lower rates than Baby Boomers did when they were younger. And compared with their elders today, fewer young people say that religion is very important in their lives. What is the future of religion in a world of growing secularism? Is freedom of religion becoming fear of religion, fear of asserting one's religious identity, or even a demand for freedom from religion? How can one practice an authentic pluralism that respects people of all faiths and of no faith? Navigating these questions is a difficult task in itself, and without safe spaces and support from others it is all the more difficult.

ARKIA’S POST:
Hello, my name is Arkia Brooks from Montgomery, Alabama. I’m 31 years of age and married, we have two sons together. I like shopping, going out to eat and doing my hair. I own a hairline which I sell hair and other hair products.
I am a graduate of Alabama State University of May 2015, currently working in the Social Work field as a Foster Care Mentor Specialist. I work for Georgia Family and Children Services as a Foster care Mentor Specialist which I train all new hire case managers, supervisors, and veterans case managers. Very excited about this class and meeting new people. The online class will fit better into my schedule. The benefit of online is I learned some very important things: time management, determination, and accountability for my education. I decided to attend Ashford University to further my education and obtain a master’s in human services. The curriculum really would work well with my career path as well as financially. I want to help my community by starting a daycare that offers classes for special needs children.
My undergraduate academic experience was wonderful. I was on the Dean's list and won several honors awards. I’m a very determined, hard worker and organizer woman. I intern at Seraaji Family Homes Inc., a private foster care agency. While there I work with foster parents, children suffering from severe, emotional, and behavioral problems with their families. I went into the home with children to prevent them from coming into foster care. I help managed children's case files. We provide services to help enhance and empower families to build on their strength. My internship has helped me with the experience of learning so much about foster care. This internship has inspired me to continue my education further in Social work.
I can’t wait to get to know you all. I want to learn more about human development and use it in my everyday work. I only have 1 class left in I'm so excited about graduation.

3. Testimonials:Client Responses
“Brandon has a special gift, and uses everything he has to engage the audience with humor that is
he known for he then drives home his message. He did a tremendous job speaking to our high
school students and at a time that we needed to hear a positive and uplifting message the most,
he delivered right on cue. I would highly recommend him for any speaking engagement,
banquet or church event.” –Ricky Wilkinson, Cement H.S. Ag-Ed Instructor
“Brandon is an excellent speaker for any event or age group that you can imagine. I have been
fortunate enough to utilize his services at a youth conference, where he motivated students to go
back to their home towns and ignite their schools and communities, and also at a Oklahoma
Farm Bureau Leadership Conference for adults, where he encouraged them to step out of their
comfort zone and step up into the leadership role in front of them. In both cases, Brandon's
professionalism and desire to help others succeed shines through in his presentation. If you want
to leave an impact on your audience, Brandon is definitely someone I would recommend.”
-Holly Carroll, Oklahoma Farm Bureau
“I can’t thank Brandon enough for being our Speaker for the 2014 OASC D2 Student Council
Convention. I am grateful for his inspiring message that was fun, interactive and something the
high school students could understand and relate to. His enthusiasm and energy was perfect for
the event. The message that he delivered was spot on for the theme we had “The Power of
Traditions”. The centerpieces of his speech-leaving a legacy and the impact students can have in
their own schools were both awesome! I have to say that Brandon’s message was one of the best
we have had in a long time for our Student Council conventions. I really appreciated his message
and how it motivated the students to make an impact here at their schools and for their future.
Last but not least, I thought his wrap-up song was hilarious at the end of his message!” -
Jordan Hodge, STUCO Advisor, Guthrie High School
“Brandon came and spoke to our church this past year and we were blessed to have him.
Through his message, he uplifted our church congregation reminding us of the love and calling
God has on each of our hearts. Our congregation needed to hear this message. I highly
recommend Brandon to speak at any event you may have come up on your calendar. Your
audience will be greatly blessed and everyone will leave with a sense of purpose and action. I
guarantee that!”
