Social Enterprise: Charisma Arts
• Started in 2002 and launched web
presence to sell the Egyptian
Handicrafts online.
• Become a Social Entrepreneur in 2007
– Market and distribute Egyptian
hand-made items of high quality
– Want to help marginalized
individuals (orphans, refugees,
families, prisoners) to make a
sustainable income from their
handicrafts
– Went from 9 to 143 suppliers in last
three years
• Opened a small shop in Zamalek in
2008 to have a retail outlet to sell the
products till the revolution.

graduated as a Decoration Engineer

• Financed the operation of Charisma
Arts since creation through its
different stages, online and physical
retail store.

•2009 - Awarded by the Egyptian ministry of cultural
affair for distinguished artistic cultural products.
•2009 – Chosen one of the first 35 Entrepreneurs and
women leaders in Goldman Sachs initiative "10,000
women"
•2010- Chosen among 200 social entrepreneurs
for the presidential summit - Washington DC
•2011 – Selected as one of leaders of next
generation in Stars-Switzerland for
entrepreneurs.
•2010 – Chosen as one of the 20 best
projects in the Euro Mediterranean
area by the catholic university in
Milano- Italy

– Reposition Charisma Arts in a higher price
segment, targeting western audiences who
are willing to pay premium for Hand-made,
Natural material, Fair trade etc
– Re-brand corporate identity with look and
feel adapted to western tastes
• Marketing and Distribution
– Develop Marketing Strategies for both
retail and on-line presence
– Evaluate different scenarios for retail sales
considering cost & revenue impact
• Products
– Be more selective in which product lines to
sell – marketable to foreign/western
audience
– if products don't sell well – stop and
replace them quickly
Suppliers
– Focus on fewer suppliers to reduce total
supplier related workload
– Order larger volumes per supplier to
help them get a sustainable income
(become an important client of each
supplier)
– With larger volumes better purchase
prices can be negotiated

•Egyptian population- more than 75% less than
25 years old
• With the high rate of illiteracy, media is the best
means of communication
•Gathering together Egyptian ground bands and
artists, giving them opportunities
•Asking international artists to take part

In 2012 we printed around
50posters to be hung in vital places
in Cairo, and where the youth
circulation who are our target was
concentrated , in addition to the
schools we were acting at.
In the poster we spoke about the
aim, the bands, the schedule of
events and locations
Flyers
More than 10,000 flyers
were printed in colours,
distributed in schools
and where the youth
circulation were
concentrated, expected
partners were
advertised as well.
With the efforts of our
volunteers we
distributed all flyers and
ran out of them by the
time of the event
We owe the metropole
print house for
supporting us with the
printings as CSR to
support our vision

Profile Vivian Labib Social Enterprise: Charisma Arts • Started in 2002 and launched web presence to sell the Egyptian Handicrafts online. • Become a Social Entrepreneur in 2007 – Market and distribute Egyptian hand-made items of high quality – Want to help marginalized individuals (orphans, refugees, families, prisoners) to make a sustainable income from their handicrafts – Went from 9 to 143 suppliers in last three years • Opened a small shop in Zamalek in 2008 to have a retail outlet to sell the products till the revolution. 3 Founder: Vivian Labib • 38 years old, single, living in Cairo, Egypt • Education: Cairo Fine Arts College – graduated as a Decoration Engineer 1997 • Financed the operation of Charisma Arts since creation through its different stages, online and physical retail store.

Awards: 4 •2009 - Awarded by the Egyptian ministry of cultural affair for distinguished artistic cultural products. •2009 – Chosen one of the first 35 Entrepreneurs and women leaders in Goldman Sachs initiative "10,000 women" •2010- Chosen among 200 social entrepreneurs for the presidential summit - Washington DC •2011 – Selected as one of leaders of next generation in Stars-Switzerland for entrepreneurs. •2010 – Chosen as one of the 20 best projects in the Euro Mediterranean area by the catholic university in Milano- Italy

Recommendations • Legal Structure – Set-up a legal structure around Charisma Arts that enables Vivian to apply for external funding • Branding and Positioning – Reposition Charisma Arts in a higher price segment, targeting western audiences who are willing to pay premium for Hand-made, Natural material, Fair trade etc – Re-brand corporate identity with look and feel adapted to western tastes • Marketing and Distribution – Develop Marketing Strategies for both retail and on-line presence – Evaluate different scenarios for retail sales considering cost & revenue impact • Products – Be more selective in which product lines to sell – marketable to foreign/western audience – if products don't sell well – stop and replace them quickly Suppliers – Focus on fewer suppliers to reduce total supplier related workload – Order larger volumes per supplier to help them get a sustainable income (become an important client of each supplier) – With larger volumes better purchase prices can be negotiated

  • 29. Session Two Using Media /Arts •Egyptian population- more than 75% less than 25 years old • With the high rate of illiteracy, media is the best means of communication •Gathering together Egyptian ground bands and artists, giving them opportunities •Asking international artists to take part

  • 32. Poster In 2012 we printed around 50posters to be hung in vital places in Cairo, and where the youth circulation who are our target was concentrated , in addition to the schools we were acting at. In the poster we spoke about the aim, the bands, the schedule of events and locations
  • 33. Flyers More than 10,000 flyers were printed in colours, distributed in schools and where the youth circulation were concentrated, expected partners were advertised as well. With the efforts of our volunteers we distributed all flyers and ran out of them by the time of the event We owe the metropole print house for supporting us with the printings as CSR to support our vision
