Article 1:
Using Social Media and Networking
1. Develop a product service idea.
My product is a mobile application to set up a carpool for employees working in an office. A lot of employees working in an office do not know that some of their employees live within a 2-mile radius of their home. The application takes employee data i.e. their addresses and office timings as an input and generates possible carpooling groups. An individual can log in and check the possible carpooling groups and get into the group.
A. Describe the product/service including the benefits of using the product/service
According to a survey, out of the carpooling group, 40% of them do carpool with their apartment/flatmates. The advantage of the same is that source is same and the individual destinations might be same or nearby others. With this application, we can have sources nearby and the destination is the same.
B. Discuss the potential customers for this product/service
Potential customers are the companies and their employees which can share the probable carpooling groups for the employees who can benefit from the same.
2. Based on the nature of the product/service, recommend at least 3 possible social media to use in marketing the product/service. Describe your recommendations and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each.
I will recommend LinkedIn, Facebook, Youtube for marketing my product on social media.
Facebook - Based on the Facebook users, one can say that easier way to reach out to a wide audience is through facebook. Share feature or newsfeed will help us more with the marketing.
Advantages are being able to reach out to a wider audience and facebook groups help us to communicate our carpool groups easier and form locality groups.
The disadvantage with facebook is that it costs us more for ad campaigns when compared with other social media.
LinkedIn - Linkedin is said to be the social media for professionals. Our product being related to companies having more than 100 employees and directly relates to professionals, LinkedIn helps to market the idea to the right audience.
The advantage is that to be able to reach out to correct set of audience and make them understand the importance of the same. The disadvantage is that we will not be able to communicate in groups
YouTube - Our product can be well presented with videos and be able to explain the scenario and how it helps to conserve the environment. With correct content, we can reach out to the right set of audience.
The advantage is to be able to present the content with videos and show the impact. The disadvantage of YouTube is that it is expensive to run an ad campaign and also might get far behind with the entertainment content.

How to Keep an Open-source App Together With Commercial Products? All Things Open
Presented at Open Source 101 2023 - Charlotte
Presented by Tatiana Krupenya, DBeaver
Title: How to Keep an Open-source App Together With Commercial Products?
Abstract: There is this special magical moment in the life of any successful open-source project when owners decide to make some money on it. It doesn't matter what business model you choose - the first competitor that you will meet is your own open-source app.
The easiest way to solve the issue is to get rid of the open-source version. In DBeaver, we have heard this suggestion plenty of times. But we have never followed this advice. Why? Let's talk about these:
- Why is it beneficial to keep an open-source app when you go to the commercial story?
- How to share the resources between open-source and commercial apps?
- How to grow the product community and make it your friend?
There is an opinion that people will never pay for something they can get for free. From some point of view, it is true. But it doesn't mean that we have to forget about open-source.
Introduction to Ant Colony Optimization TechniquesMrinmoy Majumder
Ant Colony Optimization is a metaheuristic algorithm inspired by the foraging behavior of ants. It involves simulating the way ants communicate and cooperate to find the shortest path between their nest and a food source.
History of Ant Colony Optimization
Ant Colony Optimization was first introduced by Marco Dorigo in the early 1990s, drawing inspiration from the pheromone trails that ants use to communicate with each other. Since then, it has been successfully applied to various optimization problems in computer science and engineering. It has proven to be particularly useful in solving routing problems, such as the traveling salesman problem.
Ant Colony Optimisation has been used in a wide range of applications, including routing optimisation, scheduling problems, and vehicle routing. By mimicking the collaborative and decentralised nature of ant colonies, this algorithm has proven to be effective in finding optimal solutions to complex problems.
For example, in routing optimisation, Ant Colony optimisation can be used to find the most efficient path for data packets to travel through a network by simulating how ants find the shortest path to a food source. This can help improve network efficiency and reduce congestion. Additionally, in vehicle routing applications, the algorithm can be used to optimise delivery routes for multiple vehicles by mimicking how ants communicate and coordinate with each other to efficiently explore and exploit different routes. This can ultimately lead to cost savings and faster delivery times.

Select the factors from literature and stakeholders survey to identify the most significant factors.
Separate these into two groups :
i)One group is for Reliability Enhancing Factors(R)
ii)Another group is for Risk Enhancing Factors(r)
Find the weightage of importance of each factors of each group with respect the impact of climate change on them. Use the Analytical Hierarchy Process Multi Criteria Decision Making method to determine the weightage. Here Climate Variables like Rainfall and Evapotranspiration can be selected as the criteria and all the factors as the alternative. Determine the weightage one group at a time.
Now place the sum of the value of the Reliability Enhancement Factors, (each multiplied with their weightage of importance) in Numerator and the sum of the value of Risk Enhancing Factor (each multiplied with their weightage of importance) in the Denominator.

Ten Most Recognizable Case Studies of Using Outlier.pptxMrinmoy Majumder
Outlier detection is a method used to identify outliers in data, such as power consumption in non-residential buildings, online leakage detection in water distribution systems, and efficient water quality prediction systems.
It is also used in healthcare fraud, coastal water temperature data, and monitoring water quality data.
The method has been applied in various case studies, such as a survey, healthcare fraud, and fault detection for circulating water pumps.
It is also used in acoustic feature-based leakage event detection for large-scale water distribution networks.
Five Ideas for opening startups in Virtual and Green WaterMrinmoy Majumder
Start-ups can offer services for identifying ideal locations for virtual and green water harvesting tanks. Real-time monitoring of water levels is provided, ensuring optimal water management. Water classifiers, developed using water quality sensors, separate green water from virtual water, ensuring automatic detection of water use. Leak detection in irrigation pipelines or water tanks can save thousands of dollars and prevent major disasters. Non-linear AI-based computer models can predict the availability of virtual and green water, ensuring the watershed is well-stocked. These services can help optimize water management and reduce costs associated with traditional water sources.

12. HOW TO SETUP WATERBODIES IN THE BACKYARD
AND EARN MONEY FROM THEM ?
If there is a backyard of at-least 8/8 ft then one of the
best option to earn money from home will be to
setup few interconnected garden ponds.
Create the garden ponds by digging your backyard
for at least 2ft depth 4ft wide and 5 ft in length.
The ponds may be irregular or regular shaped but
the depth must not be less than 2ft. Such that
aquatic life can flourish.
Plant some aquatic plants like Amazonia sp. And
release some ornamental fish like guppies which are
easy to maintain.
13. BUY TO PLANT
Next step will be to buy some plants.
Select 1 or 2 varieties each of flowering and fruit
plants and install them all around the ponds.
It will take 50-100 dollars and 2-3 days to complete
the entire setup.
14. ADVANTAGES
AS THE WATER BODIES WILL ABSORB
WATER, CHANCE OF WATER LOGGING
WILL BE MINIMAL.
THE SOIL TEXTURE WILL BECOME HUMID
WHICH WILL INCREASE THE SOIL
FERTILITY
THE PONDS CAN ACT AS RAINWATER
HARVESTING TANKS WHICH WILL STORE
THE RAINWATER AND WILL RECHARGE
THE GROUNDWATER DURING DRY
PERIOD.
15. How to earn money ?
If packs of ornamental fish are released in the ponds then suitable fish can be sold to
earn some hard cash.
As the supply of water can be accessed from the water bodies, one can plant
vegetables and fruits which can be later consumed for personal requirement or sold to
the local market for some cash.
One can invite bidders to sponsor the trees which is a tool to reduce Green House
gases like Carbon dioxide. Sponsoring trees is now a great platform to promote.
Savings of carbon can also be sold to the government to earn some money and fame.
Each carbon credit can be sold for $10 in the international carbon market.
16. The garden with the ponds can be converted
to a eco-spot where anyone can organize
nature shows and other environmental
awareness programs.
The pictures here shows a backyard which can
be converted into the second picture to earn
money from selling fish, flowers, fruits,
vegetables etc. along with saving the
environment.
17. FOUR FEATURES YOU MUST CHECK BEFORE
USING AN IMAGE EDITING SOFTWARE
A photo editing software is a tool to edit your
photos.
Often it is required to either resize or transform the
image format or convert the same into different
colour or remove some part of the image….
Many people use such software to enhance their
photos for better presentability.
Some use it for fun and some other will use it to
send specific message.
18. HOW TO
SELECT THE
BEST IMAGE
EDITING
SOFTWARE ?
So, it is eminent that image editing software are a
very common software which is soughted by many.
As usual there are many alternatives and
it is often a difficult task to select the best out of
them.
19. FIVE FEATURES : FEATURE 1 : IMAGE
CAPTURING
AN IMAGE EDITING SOFTWARE MUST
HAVE IMAGE CAPTURING ABILITY
INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING MODES
Rectangular Area
Specific Objects on the Screen
Freehand
Entire Screen
20. FEATURE 2 : IMAGE MORPHING
ALONG WITH THE FOLLOWING SUB-FEATURES :
Lightness Adjustment
Contrast
Sharpness
Blurring/Morphing
Transformations which includes :
Negative
To Grayscale
To Sepia
21. FEATURE 3 : IMAGE RESIZING
Image Resizing
Batch resize
Resize to a premade as well as custom
dimension without distorting the main
image
22. FEATURE 4 : Image Editing
WITH THE ABILITY TO :
Remove lines or objects
Draw Lines and Text
Create Layers
Classify the Image into Specific Colours
according to their pixel values
23. PREFERRABLE FEATURES
A PHOTO EDITING SOFTWARE MUST ALSO HAVE :
System must not slow down after installation
Requirements of Graphic Cards must be minimum
Memory requirement must also be average or minimum
Must work with Windows XP or higher
Printing of edited images must be available
Images must have the option to be exported into other formats like
jpg to bmp and vice-versa.
Copying and pasting of edited images must be allowed
Compatibility with MS or other Office publishing tools must be
available
Proper tech-support must be provided
25. AD-AD-AD
A search for any topic nowadays yields lots of ads; text,
banners of different size, peel away ads, sliding ads etc.
But as you know these ads are seldom clicked.
Even if you use paid ads they may not also be clicked.
But why ?
26. WHICH ARE THE ADS THAT ARE
MAINLY CLICKED ?
The problem is people nowadays do not have time to read and click
They just browse one page to another.
If they found a banner attractive they click on it.
Browse through the site and then within a moment jumps onto the next
site.
You see that the visual attraction is the main link between a click and no
click.
In the main site also graphically soothing sites are found to be more
successful.
27. TEXT ADS
ARE BEST
It is found from a survey that text ads
are clicked more than banners.
As text ads are short but to the point,
they will be clicked more than banner
ads which are clumsy and generates
an unclear message.
An unclear text ads will also fail to
generate clicks even if it is short.
BUT…..
28. WHY GOOGLE AD WAS
SUCCESSFUL ?
For example think about the home page of Google.
One logo and some links to their other services is all
it have along with a search form.
Now think about their success.
According to the latest estimate Google earns $8 per
user.
The image of the logo and the search buttons tells
its purpose clearly and instantly.
29. WHICH AD WILL BE SUCCESSFUL
So if your ad has a picture, which explains your promotion then you
can expect a greater number of clicks, than an ordinary ad with few
text, explaining your product.
Text ads are however cheaper than graphical ads as it doesn’t garner
much clicks.
Using picture ads also generate targeted clicks as someone who
understands the picture and is interested in what the picture is trying
to show, will only click to know more.
Certainly success rate of graphical ads is much higher than other ads.
But, if your image is dumb, ordinary and fails to express what you want
to promote then it is as successful as a text ad.
So, use graphical ads, but the image must be able to explain what you
want to express.
30. TWELVE COMMON HOUSE PLANTS
THAT CAN SAVE ELECTRICITY
WHAT IS THE MAIN USE OF ELECTRICITY IN DOMESTIC HOUSE ?
Reduce humidity and pollution
Reduce the temperature due to heat from sunlight
Increase air circulation within the rooms
Sometimes cooking and most of the times watching TV or PC or Laptops
or charging the mobiles etc.
WHAT ARE THE APPLIANCES WE USE ?
AC or fan to reduce the humidity, pollution, increase air circulation and
decrease the effect of sunlight
Induction heater for cooking
IF YOU IGNORE THE USE OF ELECTRICITY FOR RUNNIG TV AND
CHARGING MOBILE OR COOKING FOODS THEN THE MAIN USE OF
ELECTRICITY IS REDUCING HUMIDITY,TEMPERATURE AND DIRT
FROM OUR ROOMS
DO YOU KNOW SOME PLANTS CAN DO THIS JOB IF YOU KEEP
THEM IN YOUR ROOM. LET US DISCUSS ABOUT THE TWELVE
31. ORCHIDS
Keep orchids inside the room.
Orchids need moisture for their
sustenance.
They can use the moisture
content of the room air to make
their food and as there is no
outside supply of moisture in a
closed room, the moisture will
start to reduce.
32. BAMBOO PALM
Growing 3 to 6 feet tall, the long,
elegant leaves of this sturdy palm
removes toxins such as
formaldehyde, benzene, carbon
monoxide, xylene, and chloroform
etc.
In addition to helping to create
fresh air, it is an excellent spider
mite repellent.
33. CHRYSANTHEMUMS
Chrysanthemums are known to
be effective in removing benzene
from the air.
Benzene is one of the most
common pollutant
The flowers last about six weeks
and thrive in bright, indirect light.
34. PEACE LILLY
This plant will decrease moistness
levels since it absorb dampness
from the air through its leaves.
35. GERBERA
DAISIES
Most plants release oxygen
when sunlight is available
But Gerbera daisies release
oxygen in the night also which
help in producing fresh air.
“Gerbera daisies are especially
helpful for those suffering from
sleep apnoea or breathing
disorders. “
36. TILLANDSIAS
These plants are known to
filter air .
It filters out the suspended
particulate matter available in
room atmosphere.
So no need of air purifying
machines or even air
conditioning machines if you
have a bunch of this plant.
37. BOSTON FERN
It is known to be cleaner of toxins in the
air
It also increase humidity
Due to its cleaning nature many people
keep this plants in their room instead of
costly air purifying machine and thus
reduces the use of electricity.
38. SPIDER PLANT
“it removes up to 90% of harmful air
pollutants inside the house.”
Due to its leaf structure keeping a
group of these plants in your room will
help you to remove pollution and thus
decrease temperature.
Which again reduces the need to use
air conditioner or purifiers
39. ALOE VERA.
Aloe Vera also reduce indoor air
pollution.
It is easy to grow but requires sunlight
So keep a few Aloe Veras in your room it
will clear the air within a few days.
This same plants have other uses also.
You can produce creams and ointments
from this plants which has a sufficient
demand in the market.
So using this plant will not only reduce
your need of costly appliances and also
give chance to earn money
40. WARNECK
DRACAENA
It can remove toxins like formaldehyde from
the air in your home, as well as other VOCs,
including benzene, trichloroethylene, and
xylene.
However, keep your pets away from this plant,
as it can be toxic to animals when ingested.
41. MONEY PLANT
It is said that the Money plant bears the
maximum benefits when it is grown
inside the house, rather than outside
the house.
It acts as an anti-radiator which reduces
the chance of increase in room
temperature.
42. JASMINE PLANT
Natural air purifiers
Eliminates the bad odour due to its
rich fragrance
No need to use smelly room
fresheners or use electric diffusers if
you have Jasmine in your room.
43. CONCLUSION
As can be seen from the previous slides, plants if selected wisely can remove room
pollution which in turn will remove the need of air purifiers
If pollutants are removed then air will be fresh and free of toxic Volatile Organic
Compounds(VOC) and other harmful chemicals commonly found in room air.
The need of air conditioning will also reduce as the appliance is used to reduce
temperature of the room by reducing humidity.
If the air has toxics then air will be humid as it provides surface area to the water
molecules and moisture can trap heat.
As a result air temperature become high. So when AC s are used it forces the inner
warm air to outside and circulates the same air through a coolant and through multiple
filters and release the same air to the room.
As this air has minimal toxins the room moisture can not effect the room temperature
and as a result air become fresh and the room temperature get reduced.
ALL THE IMAGES USED IN THIS ARTICLE ARE COLLECTED FROM INTERNET.
SOME OF THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE PLANTS ARE ALSO RETRIEVED FROM DIFFERENT WEBSITES.
44. Contd.
If the same work of removing toxins from the air can be carried out by plants, then there
will be no need of AC s and use of electricity will also get reduced.
As a result the occupants of the room can save a lot of money.
It is better not to make a jungle in your room by using all the types of plants known for
removing pollutants.
Instead use two or three type of plants as per your requirements and use them in your
room.
Keep them where the sunlight is abundant : in front of windows will be a better choice.
Some plants can stay with out sunlight also so if your room has no window then, use these
type of plants.
Overall plants can be a good alternative to AC or Air Purifiers. And if we can remove these
appliances from our life then we can save not only electricity but also carbon generation
thus making our life sustainable.
45. FOUR PRAHARAS OF A DAY YOU MUST
MANAGE TO BECOME SUPER-PRODUCTIVE
ANCIENT AYURVEDA DIVIDES A DAY IN EIGHT PRAHARAS OF THREE
HOURS EACH
WHERE IT DENOTES THAT EACH PRAHARAS IS SUITABLE FOR SOME
FIXD WORKS
FOR EXAMPLE FIRST PRAHARA IS SUITABLE FOR MEDITATION
SECOND PRAHARA IS BEST FOR MANAGING YOUR HOUSE WORK AND
MAKING FOOD.
LAST PRAHAR IS GOOD FOR RISING FROM SLEEP AND LOVE MAKING
YOU MUST SLEEP IN THE PENULTIMATE PRAHARS
BASED ON THIS PRAHAR SYSTEM WE CAN ALSO MANAGE OUR WORK
AND GET THINGS DONE IN A MORE OPTIMAL WAY
46. EXAMPLE TIME MANAGEMENT BASED
ON PRAHARA SYSTEM
WOKE UP AT 6 AM
FINISH YOUR HOUSEWORKS INCLUDING FOOD MAKING WITHIN 9AM
TRY TO SLEEP FROM MIDNIGHT
SLEEP FROM MIDNIGHT TO SIX IN THE MORNING
COMPLETE YOUR OFFICE WORKS IN THE OFFICE ONLY.
SCHEDULE YOUR OFFICE TIME BETWEEN 9AM TO 6PM.
ATTEMPT YOUR CREATIVE WORKS FROM 6PM TO 9PM
FINISH YOUR DINNER AND CLOSE THE DAY MIDNIGHT
ALLOW 15 MIN AS A BUFFER AT THE TIME OF TRANSITTING FROM ONE
PRAHARA TO OTHER.
47. CONCLUDING REMARKS
FINALLY,ALWAYS REMEMBER EVERY ONE OF US IS DIFFERENT SO YOU HAVE TO
MANAGE YOUR WORK ACCORDING TO “YOU”
BUT THE IDEA OF PRAHARA AS A BASE FOR TIME MANAGEMENT CAN BE EFFECTIVE
AND REDUCE STRESS OF DOING MULTI TASKING OR LAST MINUTE WORKS.
ALSO TRY TO CLASSIFY YOUR WORKS AS PER YOUR REQUIREMENTS
DAY TO DAY WORKS LIKE MAKING FOOD,CLEANING ROOM ETC. WHICH ROUTINE
BUT ESSENTIAL, CAN BE CLUBBED INTO THE SAME CATEGORY
SEPERATE CATEGORY CAN BE THEIR FOR THE WORKS WHICH NEED CREATIVITY LIKE
SOLVING MATH PROBLEMS OR TO DESIGN SOMETHING NEW ETC.
SELF IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES LIKE PHYSICAL EXERCISES,MEDITATION CAN BE
PLACED IN ONE CLASS.
THEN PLACE THE SAME CLASS OF WORK INTO THE PRAHARAS WHICH ARE
RECOMMENDED FOR SIMILAR KIND OF WORKS
LAST BUT NOT LEAST, BE FLEXIBLE IN YOUR WORK BUT FIXED ON YOUR GOAL THAT
YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE BY DOING THE WORK.
