1) Blu-ray disc is a next-generation optical disc format that can store high-definition video at resolutions up to 1080p using a blue-violet laser.
2) Developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association, Blu-ray discs have over 5 times the storage capacity of DVDs, with single-layer discs holding up to 25GB and dual-layer up to 50GB.
3) In addition to high-definition video storage, Blu-ray discs offer more durability, interactivity, and flexible content protection compared to previous disc formats like DVD.

-Next generation optical disc format.
-Developed by blu-ray disc association (which includes Apple, Hitachi,
HP, LG, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony)
-Wavelength of laser which reads data: 405 nm

4. The blu-ray name is a combination of “blue”,
for the color of the laser that is used and
“ray” for optical ray.
The “e” in “blue” was purposefully left off,
according to the manufacturers, because an
everyday word cannot be a trademark.

6. Blu-ray Disc is a digital optical disk data storage format
designed to supersede the DVD format, in that it is
capable of storing high-definition video resolution
(1080p).
This format was developed by the Blu-ray Disc
Association, a group representing makers of consumer
electronics, computer hardware, and motion pictures.
Sony unveiled the first Blu-ray Disk prototypes in October
2000, and the first prototype player was released in April
2003 in Japan.
Afterwards, it continued to be developed until it’s official
release in June 2006.
As of June 2008, more than 2,500 Blu-ray Disk titles were
available in Australia and the United Kingdom, with 3,500
in the United States and Canada.
7. Blu-ray (not Blue-ray) also known as Blu-ray Disc
Association (BDA), a group of the world’s leading
consumer electronics, personal computer and media
manufacturers (including Apple, Dell, HP, Hitachi,
Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp, Sony).
The format was developed to enable recording,
rewriting and playback of high- definition video
(HD), as well as storing large amounts of data.
The format offers more than five times the
storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold
up 25GB on a single- layer disc and 50GB on a
dual-layer disc.
8. Various hard coating technologies make Bly ray
disc most durable and family -friendly”
Hard-coating technology provides resistance to:
- Finger prints
- Marks
- Scratches
- Dust
Much more ROBUST than today’s
polycarbonate-based CD/DVD’s (and HD
DVD’s)
9. SINGLE LAYER :
- Can hold data up to 25/27 GB that means 2
hrs of HD video or about 13 hrs of standard
video.
DOUBLE LAYER :
- Can hold data up to 50 GB that means 4.5 hrs
of HD video or more than 20 hrs of standard
video.

11. With BD we can:
Record HDTV without any quality loss
Instantly skip to any spot on disc
Record one program while watching other on the
disc
Create playlists
Edit or reorder programs recorded on disc
Automatically search for an empty space on the
disc to avoid recording over a program
Access to web to download subtitles and other
extra features
And many more…
