The blue economy refers to the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth. For Bangladesh, developing the blue economy could help address issues of food security, energy needs, and tourism. The country's exclusive economic zone covers over 118,000 square kilometers of sea area with an abundance of fish species, but currently only a small portion is exploited. Offshore wind and tidal energy represent renewable sources that could diversify Bangladesh's energy portfolio. Marine tourism also has significant potential given international tourism is a large global industry. However, Bangladesh faces challenges in fully capitalizing on these opportunities due to a lack of knowledge, skilled workers, and equipment for deep sea research. Proper frameworks and investment in capabilities are needed to sustainably harness the economic benefits
