BLAIDSBlack Latino AIDS Project at UCLA 2010-2011
History of BLAIDS Established in 1991 in response to high rates of HIV/AIDS infections and low admission rates to four-year universities in the Black and Latino communities.  The goal of BLAIDS is educating the Black and Latino communities about HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and the pursuit of higher education. The Black Latino AIDS Project (BLAIDS) is a collaboration between two campus organizations  Black Pre-Health Organization (BPHO)  Chicanos/Latinos for Community Medicine (CCM).
What does BLAIDS do? Information distribution Condom distribution Sites on campus at UCLA High School presentations Collaboration with other on campus groups- Proyecto de Jornaleros, Latino Student Health Project, Black Hypertension Project Increase awareness about HIV/AIDS Tabling in De Neve Plaza Condom Demo at a HS Site
BLAIDS in action Presenting STD slides at HS Site Tabling at Beat ‘SC Rally Presentation in Tecate, Mexico
High Schools in LAUSD and Beyond Dorsey High School Manual Arts High School Roosevelt High School Central LA High School Westchester High School El Rancho High School View Park Continuation High School And many more to come- we are constantly expanding our service recipient base.
BLAIDS Mother Organizations BLAIDS mother organizations are Black Pre-Health Organization (BPHO) and Chicanos/Latinos for Community Medicine (CCM)  BPHO meetings are held Tuesdays of odd weeks at 5pm in the SAC Basement Conference Room 2. CCM meetings are every Tuesday at 6pm in Humanities 135. http://www.studentgroups.ucla.edu/ccm/
Volunteering with BLAIDS BLAIDS volunteers do not have to be members of either of the mother organizations as long as they attend a BLAIDS training (held at the beginning of each quarter), or attend a director’s office hour. The BLAIDS office is in SAC 106E with all of the other health empowerment organizations of the Community Programs Office.
