The Black Latino AIDS Project (BLAIDS) at UCLA was established in 1991 to educate the Black and Latino communities about HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases, and higher education opportunities. BLAIDS collaborates with campus organizations like the Black Pre-Health Organization and Chicanos/Latinos for Community Medicine to provide HIV/AIDS information and condoms on campus and make presentations at local high schools. Volunteers from any background can get involved after attending a BLAIDS training.

Poorer neighborhoods tend to have fewer supermarkets and more liquor stores and fast food restaurants, offering less healthy food options. This is due in part to systemic racism in the food system. Organizations like Líderes Campesinas work to empower farmworkers and advocate for more just and sustainable food systems. The H-2A visa program that brings temporary immigrant farmworkers to the US leaves them vulnerable due to their dependence on specific employers.

Feedback showed youth changed how they handle and care for their rabbits after attending.

Vida/SIDA is a project of the Puerto Rican Cultural Center founded in 1988 to address HIV/AIDS in Chicago's Puerto Rican and Latino communities. It provides prevention programs, testing, and services to neighborhoods on the west and northwest sides of Chicago. Vida/SIDA conducts outreach, education, and testing and collaborates with various community partners. It hosts various annual events related to HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention and participates in cultural events in the Latino community. This study assessed barriers to HIV/AIDS services for Latinos in 9 Southern states. Key findings included immigration status as a major barrier, as many Latinos avoided testing and treatment due to fears of deportation. Cultural norms around homophobia and stigma also prevented many from accessing care. - 2. History of BLAIDS Established in 1991 in response to high rates of HIV/AIDS infections and low admission rates to four-year universities in the Black and Latino communities. The goal of BLAIDS is educating the Black and Latino communities about HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and the pursuit of higher education. The Black Latino AIDS Project (BLAIDS) is a collaboration between two campus organizations Black Pre-Health Organization (BPHO) Chicanos/Latinos for Community Medicine (CCM).

Volunteering with BLAIDS BLAIDS volunteers do not have to be members of either of the mother organizations as long as they attend a BLAIDS training (held at the beginning of each quarter), or attend a director’s office hour.
