Blade Runner
2049

Camera -
• The opening 3 minutes had a range of extreme long shots over the horizon to give
the audience a sense of feel to what is to come for the future by the film and how
the settings change overtime potentially. The extreme close up of the eye creates
meaning by showing that there are still technically humans but replicants, this was
shown after the detail bout replicants. The low angle blurred shot of the man
creates a sense of mystery, Who is the man? What is he doing? Why is he driving
this flying car?
Mise en
scene –
• The Mise en scene used in the first 3 minutes consisted of only a blurred
man with a coat and a flying car.
• Then it moves into another mysterious person this time they have a mask
and almost like a scuba suit. And it looked like he was farming maggots.
Sound -
• The sound used for this intro
was eery and sounded
abnormal, for the beginning it
sounds very creepy straight
away as the text starts to fade
away it deepens it’s tone with a
drum sound, and rises back up
loudly when it gets to the eye
scene.
• The ambient sound of the man
breathing after the beeps is
significant as it tells the
audience that something is
about to happen.
Editing -
• The text font used for the replicant information is in
a sans serif font. This is also displayed on the pilots
dashboard on his wheel and when it tells us the
location of “California 2049”. This is significant as it
shows the consistency of the text when used
throughout the first 3 minutes. These letter are all
also capitalised. The camera transitions to the
dashboard then to the driver and then the land he
is approaching and then it transitions back onto the
driver.
