José Parlá is a Cuban-American artist based in Brooklyn known for his large-scale abstract paintings and murals. He travels frequently for his work, but also to find inspiration in unfamiliar cities in the early morning hours. Parlá's work incorporates calligraphy, lettering, and lines to reinterpret the urban landscape. Though rooted in Brooklyn for twenty years, his travels continue to inform his vibrant, textured paintings and high-profile commissions in locations like the Barclays Center and World Trade Center. Parlá strives to both tell stories and allow viewers to find their own meaning in his abstract work.
