Assistant Capital Projects Coordinator
Cree Nation of Wemindji
Received all emails/questions corresponding towards capital projects being
undertaken in Wemindji and had to help maintain good relations between all
professionals, fellow employees and contractors.

Built filing system using dropbox for all documents that are needed for a capital
project to qualify for funding from the Cree Nation Government (CNG).
•
Observed the progress of all capital projects and took daily update photographs
and would check to see if there were any issues with the project that would have
to be dealt with.

Worked with the local Cree contracting company helping to improve
communication skills with the First Nation Peoples.

Helped with important engineering tests on site (example when pouring the
concrete foundation for a local warehouse I helped perform the air tests as well
as fill cylinders for the 7/28 day concrete strength test).

January 2016 - December 2016 Engineering Assistant
Crozier & Associates
I worked as an engineering assistant at Crozier &Associates for a year in order to
fufill my co-op requirements. During my year at Crozier &Associates I primarily
worked with structural design projects but I also had experience working with
transportation projects, water resource projects, land development projects, building
science projects and lot grading design. My main duties included assisting
professional engineers and E.I.T's with any projects they were working on, this
included wood condominium design, industrial building design, residential design,
retaining wall design, work on renovations and site investigations. I would help to
complete design by performing some of the tasks listed below:
Structural member design using CSA, CISC and CWC standards (beams,
columns, joists, walls bracing, etc.);
•
Foundation design (sizing of footings, slabs, concrete beams/columns, specifying
rebar sizes, etc.);
•
Connection design (drawing details for wood/steel/concrete member connections
+ specifying bolt sizes, welds or Simpson Strong Tie Connectors);
•
Retaining wall design (sizing for overturning moment, sliding &toe crushing);•
Reviewing structural drawings produced by technicians and marking changes to
be made;
•
Reviewing shop drawings (steel, wood, rebar, etc.);•
Helping technicians with AutoCad drawings when busy;•
Surveying on site (lot grading plans, investigations);•
Preparing site investigation reports (drainage investigations, structural building
assessments);
•
Preparing tender documentation to be sent to possible contractors, and;•
Preparing drawings and report submissions that were to be sent out.•

Galleries Condominium (E1, E2 &E3)
Strucutal design of 3, 6 storey wood framed residential buildings in Barrie, ON;•
Created excel spreadsheet to design all beams, columns and joists in building;•
Sized all strip footings, pad footings, concrete columns &beams for 2 parking
garages as well as specifying rebar for concrete members;
•
Design of underground parking ramp slab, walls &beam;•
Drawing numerous construction connection details (concrete column to wood
column, wood joists to beam, wall sections, etc.)
•
Reviewing drawings to ensure structural integrity;•
Reviewing shop drawings to ensure conformace to our produced drawings and
applicable building code, and;
•
Attending site meetings to address additional items to be designed.•
Also performed many of the same tasks with different residential condominiums and
industrial buildings including a similar 6 storey wood building in Barrie called
Junction, the design of an addition for Linear Transfer Automation and numerous
housing design projects in the Collingwood area.
Raglan Village Accessibility Design
Design of an accessibility upgrade plan for a retirement facility in Collingwood,
ON;
•
Wanted to make below grade parking garage more accessible;•
Studying of given plan view drawings of parking garage;•
Reviewing applicable part 3 and part 9 of OBC for accessibilty requirements;•
Designing accessibility ramp to replace stairs from entrance to parking garage;•
Adjusting floor grades to suit accessibility ramp requirements, and;•
Researching possible lifts for areas where there is not enough room for an
accessibility ramp.

Volunteering work and
involvement
Regularly volunteered to help run time-clock and scoresheet for the Shelburne
Minor Hockey Association (2008-2013);

Shelburne Fall Fair (2011,2012) helping to run different events (tractor pull, 50-
50);
•
Volunteered with different activities during my stay in Wemindji (including a
fishing derby (Wemindji Walleye Derby) and different sports tournaments);

Participated in Bowl for Kids Sake 2016 in Collingwood, ON to raise money for
Big Brothers and Big Sisters Canada, and;

Participated in Polar Bear Dip 2016 in Collingwood, ON to raise money for
Collingwood G&M Hospital Foundation.

Stephen is a structural E.I.T. that will be eligible to write his
engineering exam by the end of 2017. He is extremely
experience with all structural design elements and would
often coordinates work given from Chris to me and other
junior E.I.T's. I was always able to come ask Stephen
questions, or for work if I was light on a given day. Working
closey with Stephen I was able to learn many important
aspects of structural engineering design.

I would help to complete design by performing some of the tasks listed below: Structural member design using CSA, CISC and CWC standards (beams, columns, joists, walls bracing, etc.); • Foundation design (sizing of footings, slabs, concrete beams/columns, specifying rebar sizes, etc.); • Connection design (drawing details for wood/steel/concrete member connections + specifying bolt sizes, welds or Simpson Strong Tie Connectors); • Retaining wall design (sizing for overturning moment, sliding &toe crushing);• Reviewing structural drawings produced by technicians and marking changes to be made; • Reviewing shop drawings (steel, wood, rebar, etc.);• Helping technicians with AutoCad drawings when busy;• Surveying on site (lot grading plans, investigations);• Preparing site investigation reports (drainage investigations, structural building assessments); • Preparing tender documentation to be sent to possible contractors, and;• Preparing drawings and report submissions that were to be sent out.• Please see below for some of the major projects I worked on during my work terms. Galleries Condominium (E1, E2 &E3) Strucutal design of 3, 6 storey wood framed residential buildings in Barrie, ON;• Created excel spreadsheet to design all beams, columns and joists in building;• Sized all strip footings, pad footings, concrete columns &beams for 2 parking garages as well as specifying rebar for concrete members; • Design of underground parking ramp slab, walls &beam;• Drawing numerous construction connection details (concrete column to wood column, wood joists to beam, wall sections, etc.) • Reviewing drawings to ensure structural integrity;• Reviewing shop drawings to ensure conformace to our produced drawings and applicable building code, and; • Attending site meetings to address additional items to be designed.• Also performed many of the same tasks with different residential condominiums and industrial buildings including a similar 6 storey wood building in Barrie called

Raglan Village Accessibility Design Design of an accessibility upgrade plan for a retirement facility in Collingwood, ON; • Wanted to make below grade parking garage more accessible;• Studying of given plan view drawings of parking garage;• Reviewing applicable part 3 and part 9 of OBC for accessibilty requirements;• Designing accessibility ramp to replace stairs from entrance to parking garage;• Adjusting floor grades to suit accessibility ramp requirements, and;• Researching possible lifts for areas where there is not enough room for an accessibility ramp. • Please contact to hear more about the numerous projects I worked on while at Crozier &Associates. I was always able to come ask Stephen questions, or for work if I was light on a given day.
