L.A. fashion hits North York
Plus, a new sports grill, a classic
T.O. boutique heads north and more
Los Angeles–inspired European fashion retailer Brandy Melville is out to
prove that size is just a number. Having recently opened its second Ontario
store at Yorkdale Shopping Centre, the roughly 2,200-square-foot shop’s
clothes are all one size fits all. The clothes instead focus on the loose sil-
houettes, floral colours and light fabrics one might find in California, mixed
with a European vibe that caters to girls and women aged 12 through 25.
The shop also offers jewellery made in L.A. and trendy slogan-print T-
shirts. It is run by general manager Melissa Belding and assistant manager
Maggy Rinaldo (3401 Dufferin St., 647-748-5104).
New to the busy Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue intersection is
Jackson City Sports Grill. The sports bar offers 11 beers on tap, as well as
traditional (and not so traditional) pub fare, such as the Chef’s Mega
Monster Challenge — two bacon grilled cheese sandwiches encasing a
cheddar, pulled pork and jalapeno burger and a Swiss and mushroom burg-
er. Chef Mark Shakeri also cooks up a new, off-menu special daily. True to
its sportsbar roots, 12 large flat screens are tuned to the game, with six
installed within certain booths (35 Sheppard Ave. E., 647-748-8840).
Pestacio International Foods is a new luxury food importer a stone’s throw
from the Bridle Path. Brother and sister Ali and Annie Herjipour opened
Pestacio in early April and have been enjoying selling their dried fruit, nuts
and caviar, all of which are shipped fresh every week. There is already a vast
selection to choose from, with more brands and tastes arriving from around
the world in time for their upcoming grand opening in the first week of
May (3322 Yonge St., 647-748-5322).
Bayview Village Shopping Centre recently announced that cutting-edge
fashion retailer TNT The New Trend is expected to open there in
September 2013. Known for its current stores in the Avenue Road and
Eglinton Avenue area, TNT features upscale European and Canadian
designs for both men and women (2901 Bayview Ave.).
