such as Salmonella(causes food
poisoning) and Ornithosis.
(can be mistaken for flu in human)
Types of pest birds
Types of pest birds
• Sparrow - Scientific name:
Passer Domesticus.
• Like rodents, house sparrow
is an opportunistic - forager.
• Urban sparrow utilizes food
garbage of people.
6
Types of pest birds
• Myna – Scientific name : Sturnus

Nuisance DiseaseProperty
• To Roofs with droppings
and nests
• Machinery Damage
• Automobile Damage
• Huge cost to individuals &
businesses each year in
clean-up expenses, repairs
& maintenance &
damaged equipment.
• Fire Hazard by Nests
• Damage to company
image
• Nuisance to Human
beings
• 60 types of
transmissible diseases
like Histoplasmosi &
other diseases
• Asthama
• Food Contamination
• Instances of people
killed by monoxide
poisoning through
blocked exhaust
• Birds carry insects
which are harmful to
human beings
Damages Caused y Birds…
Nuisance DiseaseProperty
9
Prevention of defacement
Droppings deface and accelerate the
deterioration of buildings
Avoid contamination
Prevent contamination and defect on goods
caused from bird nesting material, feathers,
droppings, vomit, SPI and mites
Benefits of Bird Management..
Benefits of Bird Management..
10
Reduction in maintenance costs
Nests and droppings block rain gutters and down-
pipes. These results in overflow of water that can
lead to timber decay, broken rendering, ruined
decorations and even lead to severe structural
damages
Reduction of skin aliments
Bird droppings and nesting materials harbor a
wide variety of stored product insects
including mites. These can cause skin
irritation among people with sensitive skin
Benefits of Bird Management..
11
Reduction of diseases
Pest birds such as starlings and pigeons carry a wide
range of bacteria including:
•Salmonella (causes food poisoning)
•Ornithosis (can be mistaken for flu in human)
Prevention of fouling to entrances and pavements
Droppings render pavements hazardous especially
during rainy conditions. No more slimy droppings
and the potential of accidents or litigation
Elimination of noise and smell
The noise made by pest birds is annoying and the
droppings produce objectionable odor
Diseases Transmissible by Pigeon
12
• Histoplasmosis
• A fatal respiratory diseases results from a
fungus growing in dried pigeon droppings.
• Candidiasis
• Yeast on fungus infection spread by pigeons.
Diseases Transmissible by Pigeon
13
• Cryptococcosis
• Caused by yeast found intestinal tract of
pigeons and staling affect the central
nervous system.
• Salmonellosis
• Occurs as food poisoning found in pigeon
dropping.
