The document contains poems written by 5th grade students describing different biomes: the ocean, tropical rainforest, desert, freshwater, and marine aquatic biome. The poems highlight key features of each biome such as location, climate, plants and animals found there.
A NULL value in a database represents a field with no value, which is different than a field containing a zero or spaces. To test for NULL values, the IS NULL and IS NOT NULL operators must be used instead of comparison operators. The IS NULL operator selects records where the column is empty/NULL, while IS NOT NULL selects records where the column contains a non-empty value. For example, to find employee names where the salary field is empty, use "SELECT names FROM Employee WHERE Salary IS NULL".
1. SQL is used to store, manipulate, and retrieve data from databases. It allows users to define, modify, and query data with commands and statements.
2. The document covers fundamental SQL concepts like SELECT statements, WHERE clauses, JOINs, data types, aggregation functions, and table creation/modification.
3. Key topics include retrieving single and multiple columns, filtering rows with WHERE, sorting with ORDER BY, and limiting results with LIMIT. Aggregation, GROUP BY, and HAVING are explained for summarizing data across groups.
This document defines and describes the seven major biomes: grassland, taiga, tundra, desert, deciduous forest, and tropical rain forest. Each biome is characterized by the dominant plant life it contains and environmental factors like temperature, precipitation levels, and soil conditions that determine what type of plants can survive there. Clicking on pictures provides links to explore each biome in more detail.
The document discusses the key features of tropical rainforests. It notes that tall trees can reach heights of 40-50 meters to receive more sunlight. The interior of rainforests remain cool and moist as they receive 70-100% sunlight. Common plants in tropical rainforests include lianas, epiphytes, and dense undergrowth layers that receive less sunlight. Examples of tropical rainforests discussed include the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve in Singapore. The document also outlines some benefits that tropical rainforests provide, such as producing oxygen, sourcing medical drugs, preventing soil erosion, and offering recreational activities.

The life cycle of a butterfly involves four stages: egg, larva (caterpillar), pupa (chrysalis), and adult butterfly. The female butterfly lays eggs on leaves, which hatch into caterpillars. Caterpillars molt and grow by eating leaves until they are ready to form a chrysalis. Inside the chrysalis, the caterpillar undergoes metamorphosis and transforms into an adult butterfly. After emerging from the chrysalis, the adult butterfly lives for about two weeks, during which time it will mate and lay new eggs to continue the cycle.
This document provides an overview of principles of cavity preparation. It defines cavity preparation and discusses its history and objectives. Factors affecting cavity preparation and various classification systems are described, including those proposed by G.V. Black and G.J. Mount. Terminology related to cavity preparation such as tooth preparation walls, angles, and classifications of cavities are defined. The stages of cavity preparation including initial outline form and depth are outlined. Key principles for preserving cuspal strength and marginal ridge strength are discussed.

This is a biosphere powerpoint I've created for a middle school level science class. It's full of fun animated cartoons and facts on both aquatic and terrestrial biomes.
The document provides an overview of various aquatic and terrestrial biomes. It describes key features of lakes, wetlands, streams/rivers, estuaries, oceans, coral reefs, tropical rainforests, deserts, savannas, grasslands, coniferous forests, temperate forests, and tundra biomes. For each biome, it outlines characteristics like climate, plants, and common animal species. Speech bubbles from animals like fish, alligators, and bison are included throughout to highlight different inhabitants of the biomes.
The document provides information about a reader titled "At the Beach" that is part of the Oxford Read and Discover series. It contains 7 chapters that describe different aspects of the beach environment, such as the sand, rocks, rockpools, ocean, coast, and activities that can be done at the beach. The reader is designed to educate non-fiction readers about beach ecology and contains word counts, reading levels, and additional teaching materials.

The document discusses different habitats and the organisms found within them. It defines habitat as a place where an organism lives and gets what it needs to survive, including shelter, water, food and space. It then describes four main habitats - deserts, forests, oceans, and arctic/antarctic regions - and provides examples of some key characteristics of each habitat, such as climate, available resources, and common plant and animal species found there. The purpose is to help the reader understand what constitutes a habitat and compare the main features of different habitat types.
This document summarizes the threats facing turtle conservation and provides information about several turtle species. It discusses major threats such as consumption of turtle eggs, artificial lighting, beach armouring, beach nourishment, predators, commercial fisheries, oil and gas exploration, ingestion of marine debris. It also provides details about specific turtle species like the hawksbill sea turtle, green sea turtle, leatherback sea turtle and olive ridley sea turtle. The document concludes by suggesting actions people can take to help turtle conservation like not eating turtle eggs and not destroying turtle habitat.

A coral reef is a community of living organisms that grows in warm, tropical waters between 70-85°F. It is made up of corals, sponges, fish, and other sea creatures that form complex ecosystems underwater. Coral reefs can be found throughout the oceans in shallow, tropical areas where conditions allow corals to flourish and build their limestone structures. They are sometimes called the "rainforests of the oceans" due to their biodiversity.
The document describes key facts about tropical rainforests. It states that rainforests are Earth's oldest ecosystem, located near the equator where the temperature stays between 75-80 degrees. Though they cover only 6% of the planet's surface, rainforests contain over half of all plant and animal species, including 30 million species that live in the dense environments. It highlights the Amazon rainforest as the largest, covering an area the size of the contiguous United States.
Many creatures live in the sea, including crabs, lobsters, starfish, jellyfish, squid, fish that swim in schools, shells with creatures living inside, seals that flop on land but swim smoothly in water, walruses with tusks, octopuses, seahorses that are actually fish, sea turtles, whales that are the largest and can sing, and dolphins. The biggest creatures are whales, with the blue whale growing up to 100 feet long making it the largest animal on Earth.
The document provides an overview of various sea life found underwater, including creatures with fins and tails that feed on seaweed or prey, colorful coral reefs and plants on the ocean floor, sea turtles that lay eggs on beaches, schools of fish that swim together, colorful but sometimes poisonous fish like lionfish, giant whales larger than ships, pink krill that swarm in great numbers, glow in the dark plankton and fish, and sea horses where males give birth to about 150 babies that emerge from their stomachs. The concluding message is that the ocean is vast and should be protected from pollution to celebrate its freedom.
This document provides a detailed description of the author's experience visiting the J.N. Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island, Florida with his father. Some key points:
1) The refuge is located in a mangrove swamp habitat that has a strong sulfuric smell reminiscent of rotten eggs.
2) The author observes many birds, fish, alligators and other wildlife living in the "tea colored" water of the swamp.
3) Stepping into the refuge feels like entering another world, with few other people and sounds of nature all around.
4) While the smell and insects can deter some visitors, the author finds the natural beauty and abundance of
