2. Bill Wadman
• Bill Wadman created a series called
‘Motion’, in which he photographed 9
dancers. Using longer exposures he
created a somewhat blurry effect to them,
this made it loo as if the dancer was in
several places at once.
• This was originally an experiment, the slow
shutter speeds being something different
to his previous work.
• His settings were on f/11 with an exposure
of 3 seconds.
• Wadman was inspired by Marvin Newman,
a sports photographer that showed
Wadman a particular piece which showed
a boxer hitting his opponent using a slow
shutter.

Wadman Original
We set up a black background and then turned the lights off. With
a small torch in the distance, we asked the model to move both
body and arms around. After taking some photographs, we then
decided it would be better to increase the exposure. This allowed
the model to pause in certain poses so that we could see them
both in motion and also motionless. This was done to re-create
Wadman’s work.
4. Editing
• In terms of editing, I initially
turned the brightness down
slightly to capture the darker
tone of Wadman’s photos.
• I then proceeded to increase
contrast and saturation to
make the red dress really stand
out. This was done to replicate
Wadman’s work.
• I then used gamma correction
to brighten the foreground and
darken the background further.
