A CPA with experience assisting dozens of clients with Credit Suisse, Citigroup, and AIG, Edward Joback is based in Hoboken, New Jersey. In his spare time, Edward Joback volunteers with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBS). BBBS uses a comprehensive process to match adult mentors with children and youth who need them most. To begin the enrollment process, a parent or guardian submits a form to their local BBBS chapter. They explain their child’s interests and needs so that the group can find a mentor, or Big, who can accommodate that child, or Little. Ultimately, the parent or guardian approves the Big and Little pairing. Once the pairing occurs, the adult who initiated the pairing continues to participate in the relationship. They take child safety training in order to ensure the health of the relationship between the Big and their Little. They ask their child about the interactions with their Big, and report their findings to their assigned match coordinator. When the Little reaches certain milestones, they also alert their match coordinator. A volunteer interested in becoming a Big submits a similar inquiry form to their local BBBS chapter. Once matched with a Little, they work to bond with them by engaging in activities involving pre-existing shared interests. Volunteers can also ask their workplace to partner with BBBS, to allow their Little to shadow them there.
