1) The group exhibition 'Bengal-Nama' at Bikaner House from November 26th to December 4th features works from 20 modern and contemporary artists from Bengal and Bangladesh. 2) The show pays homage to the rich artistic heritage of Bengal from early times and includes works in diverse media like textiles, paintings, photography, ceramics, installations and sculptures. 3) Key artworks highlighted include Shimul Saha's piece combining different periods of Bengal, Bappaditya Biswas' experiment with indigo dye, and Sudipta Das's commentary on society through doll-like figurines in the piece "Home".

2. “Be it about alienation or issues of resistance, radical criticism of the socio-political systems or
playful irony and banter about the ‘bhadralok’, you find a rich diversity and multiplicity in the

Gallery Art Positive presents a group show ‘Bengal-Nama’ at Bikaner House from 26th
November
to 4th
December. The exhibition features artworks of diverse range of media including textiles,
paintings, photography, ceramics, installations, sculptures and collages. The artists of the group
show include 20 modern and contemporary artists from Bengal and Bangladesh. As the name of
the show suggests, the show pays homage to Bengal and its rich heritage of art practice from
early times.

3. The artists of the show are Bapi Das, Bappaditya Biswas, Chandra Bhattacharjee, Debasish
Mukherjee, Lalu Prasad Shaw, Jogen Chowdhury, K. G. Subramanyan, Narayan Chandra Sinha,
Najmun Nahar Keya, Paritosh Sen, Partha Dasgupta, Promotesh Das Pulak, Reba Hore, Shahria
Sharmin, Shimul Saha, Shyamal Dutta Ray, Soma Das, Soumya Sankar Bose, Sudipta Das, and
Yasmin Jahan Nupur.

Shimul Saha’s engraving and pencil drawing on archival paper presents different time periods of
Bengal in a single frame whereas India based textile artist and craft activist Bappaditya Biswas
showcased his experiment with indigo, which was an important movement during Swadeshi
times. Sudipta Das’s ‘Home’ was the showstopper for the preview show. The artwork includes
various doll-like figurines which makes sharp artistic commentary on society.

The show is on view till 4th
December 2022 at Bikaner House, New Delhi. After that the
exhibition will travel to Gallery Art Positive, New Delhi.
