2. Italy – Art-meets-tech at Gucci’s store windows by IgnasiMonreal for Spring-Summer 2018
We are utterly enchanted by Spanish artist Ignassi Monreal, who has
seamlessly brought the focus of the young on the works of renowned
Masters from the renaissance era, blending new-age technology with
fashion and art. The new campaign for Gucci’s Spring/Summer 2018
Collection features original artworks by the young artist Monreal. He has
been nurtured by Gucci since he was discovered through the #guccigram
project in 2015, and recently produced the Gift Giving book for the
holiday season in December, as well as the new spring/summer 2018
advertising campaign for the House. It is the artwork for this, in
Monreal’s distinctive, signature surreal style that is at the heart of
Gucci’s new digital activation project. This follows the success of a similar
digital campaign that ran over the holiday period.Stores around the
world will feature windows dedicated to promoting this digital initiative.
Within the window display, a large screen will show an animated digital
illustration, as if it were an artwork in a gallery. On most windows, this
impression is reinforced by the presence of a bench facing the screen on
which coloured velvet-covered mannequins will sit, as if looking at the
art hung on a gallery wall. Asticker on the store window will enable
those who have downloaded the Gucci App to access a microsite by
scanning it. The site will feature downloadable wallpaper and access to a
catalogue of more of Monreal’s Illustrations

showcase at its boutique store in Greater Kailash store in New Delhi, along with
designer Manish Arora, who unveiled two signature looks from the upcoming spring-
summer collection. The designer had teamed the two dresses from his latest
collections, with carefully selected pieces of jewellery from Zoya’s collections such as
Krsna, Musee Du Luxe, Awadh, Jewels of the Crown as well as previewed its yet-to-
be-launched collection for the festive season, “Whispers from the Valley”, with
statement necklaces, rings, cuffs, bangles, bracelets and earrings. The effect was
stunning on the two models who displayed the wares with elan. Manish Arora’s
signature looks and techniques, of a rich palette of psychedelic colours and kitsch
motifs in garments that combine traditional Indian crafts like embroidery, appliqué and
beading with Western silhouettes were in place. Combine the unique concoction of
hues that are Arora’s trademark with Zoya’s outstanding craftsmanship and the result
is an eccentric amalgamation of high-fashion and understated luxury. Manish Arora
said, “Our Spring Summer 18 reflects fun and luxury with elements like hearts, stars,
feathers and flowers. The collaboration with ZoyaJewellery is a creative fusion of
similar vision achieved using different mediums. I am looking forward to the show

4. India – Embassy of Belgium creates logo to commemorate 70 year of Indo-Belgian association
On the 16th August, 2017, exactly a day after India celebrated the 70th
Independence Day, the Embassy of Belgium in India launched a new logo as an
ode to as many years of diplomatic relations between the two countries India
and Belgium. The Ambassador of Belgium, H.E. Mr Jan Luykx explained the
significance of the logo, which is a graphic of the national bird of India, the
peacock. The number 70, marking the anniversary years, are held up by the
feathers of the bird, which are in the colours of the Belgian flag – black, yellow,
red and the colours of the Indian flag – orange, white, green. Recounting the
history, which was unknown to most of us present there, the Ambassador filled
in the details. The first diplomatic initiative was taken by Pandit Jawaharlal
Nehru, the new Prime Minister of India, who sent V.K. Krishna Menon to
Brussels in January 1947. Menon’s meeting with the Belgian Foreign Minister,
Paul Henry Spaak was successful and in March 1947 the Belgian Government
officially informed Mr Nehru of its decision to establish diplomatic relations with
India and to open an embassy In Delhi. A chargé d’affaires was appointed in May
1947.The first ambassador, Eugène Prince de Ligne, arrived in Delhi in
September 1947. He presented his credentials on September 20th – thereby
becoming also the first ambassador accredited to independent India. It is
commendable that the Belgian Embassy has honoured its diplomatic association
with India in such a manner. The logo will be officially in use for the entire year.
