The Beirut Barracks Bombing was a terrorist attack that occurred on October 23, 1983 in Beirut, Lebanon. Two truck bombs crashed into buildings housing American and French military soldiers, killing a total of 299 American and French servicemen. The attack, using bombs equivalent to six tons of TNT, was the largest non-nuclear explosion in history at that time and was claimed by the terrorist group Islamic Jihad.
