Being Single Quotes
If you really are going to be a happy single, you have to stop treating being single as the annoying
time that you pass between relationships and embrace it. Rather than focusing on what you lack,
focus on what you have: You. ~ Natalie Lue, Life Coach and Blogger of "Baggage Reclaim"
It is amazing how many people misconstrue the state of being single. It is either associated with
being lonely and desperate. Take Charlotte Brontë's quote for example,
The trouble is not that I am single and likely to stay single, but that I am lonely and likely to stay
lonely.
Or, it is portrayed to be a result of grand dislike for the generalised characteristics associated with
the opposite sex. Example? Gladly.
I am single because I am allergic for cursing words and bad table manners. ~ Hiroko Sakai
Spinster: a woman who wants to be free from a man's bondage, so she goes to work for an employer
and remains unburdened by someone willing to pay her mortgage. By virtue of not wading into the
gene pool, she never has children who might betray her to a nursing home - her neighbors find some
excuse to do that. ~ Bauvard in "Evergreens Are Prudish"
Or simply because the single person in question cannot land a suitable partner. Like in this extract
from Carrie Adam's "The Godmother",
"You'll meet someone soon. No one knows what's round the corner."
How many corners, because I feel like I've turned them all. I meet people all the time. It never works
out. I don't know why.
What I often wonder is why society finds it so difficult to view the state of being single as a period
where an individual is happy to be without a romantic partner, enjoying the fruits of singlehood and
self-company, and yet is not abhorred, revolted or remotely chagrined by the idea of finding that
special someone someday. And even if that special someone does not come along, it's still alright
because love exists in way too many forms and percolates through to every individual somehow. It
can be a conscious choice to remain single because a person is perfectly at peace with whatever
his/her current situation is and does not find it compelling to be with someone else. It doesn't have
to stem from any kind of commitment phobia or a deep-rooted hatred for the opposite sex. It doesn't
even have to mean that a single person will not be willing to ever enter a relationship. It just might
mean that being single is a whole lot of fun. Here are some beautiful words uttered by famous
people throughout the ages about being single. Some are funny, some are profound and some just
spilling with contentedness and pride stemming from love for the self.
Being Single Quotes for Girls and Guys
When asked why I am single, my reply is simply; I consider myself a black pearl rare in my
authenticity, adding a mysterious beauty to the select few who can recognize & even fewer who
appreciate my worth. So instead of dating, I throw myself into working in the field. If my Boaz
recognizes me amongst the black rocks...great! If not, the magnificence of my rarity will simply
radiate onto those working the fields as well in the form of teaching, which is what I do.
- Sanjo Jendayi
Taking solitude in stride was a sign of strength and of a willingness to take care of myself. This
meant - among other things - working productively, remembering to leave the house, and eating
well. I thought about food all the time. I had a subscription to Gourmet and Food & Wine. Cooking
for others had often been my way of offering care. So why, when I was alone, did I find myself trying
to subsist on cereal and water? I'd need to learn to cook for one.
- Jenni Ferrari-Adler in "Alone in the Kitchen with an Eggplant: Confessions of Cooking for One and
Dining Alone"
I've been having a lot of dance parties alone in my apartment while learning to cook. Part of my
quest to be an attractive single is to learn how to cook and sew and get a license.
- Sara Quin
I think it's very healthy to spend time alone. You need to know how to be alone and not be defined by
another person.
- Oscar Wilde
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction
you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where
to go.
- Dr. Seuss
You can explore the universe looking for somebody who is more deserving of your love and affection
than you are yourself, and you will not find that person anywhere.
- Author Unknown
I think, therefore, I'm single.
- Liz Winston
I like being single, I'm always there when I need me.
- Art Leo
Maybe some women aren't meant to be tamed. Maybe they need to run free, until they find someone
just as wild to run with.
- Carrie Bradshaw in "Sex and the City" (Season II, Episode 18: Ex and the City)
I don't need a man to rectify my existence. The most profound relationship we'll ever have is the one
with ourselves.
- Shirley MacLaine
Being single used to mean that nobody wanted you. Now it means you're pretty sexy and you're
taking your time deciding how you want your life to be and who you want to spend it with.
- Carrie Bradshaw in "Sex and the City"
Being single isn't bad. What is bad is giving up hope on finding that someone special.
- Author Unknown
Too many girls rush into relationships because of the fear of being single, then start making
compromises, and losing their identity. Don't do that.
- Katy Perry
Don't cry for a man who's left you, the next one may fall for your smile.
Mae West
Without a doubt... the worst part of being a single woman was having to take care of your own car.
- Lisa Kleypas in "Rainshadow Road"
I celebrate myself, and sing myself.
- Walt Whitman
He is his own best friend, and takes delight in privacy whereas the man of no virtue or ability is his
own worst enemy and is afraid of solitude.
- Aristotle
I don't like to be labeled as lonely just because I am alone.
- Delta Burke
Being single doesn't mean you know nothing about love. Sometimes being solo is wiser than being in
a false relationship.
- Author Unknown
I must learn to love the fool in me, the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many
chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt,
promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries.
- Theodore Isaac Rubin
You do not need to be loved, not at the cost of yourself. The single relationship that is truly central
and crucial in a life is the relationship to the self. Of all the people you will know in a lifetime, you
are the only one you will never lose.
- Jo Courdert
SINGLE is not a status. It is a word that describes a person who is strong enough to live and enjoy
life without depending on others!
- Abigail Rajkumar
If you are not happy being single. You will never be happy in a relationship. Get your own life and
love it first. Then share it. Love when you're ready. Not when you're lonely.
- Author Unknown
People are really concerned about my relationship status. When I tell people I'm happy being single,
they don't believe me. They say: 'You have to be miserable being alone'.

wondering which way to go, remember that your career will never wake up and tell you that it
doesn't love you anymore.
- Lady Gaga
A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain
set of attitudes.
- Hugh Downs
I realized that whatever your path, whatever your calling, the most damaging thing you can do is let
other voices define you and drown out your own. You've got to block them out and find that place
deep inside you, shaken but still intact, and hold on to it.
- Katie Couric
When you're single, your pockets will jingle.
- Author Unknown
Being single has its advantages and disadvantages. Again, I am not saying that wanting to be in a
relationship with another person is contemptible, no. It is in fact a beautiful desire. What I am saying
is that not being in one is not contemptible either. It is up to the person to be content with the
choices he/she makes. No matter what happens, we are all masters of our own fate and free will is
what gives us that authority. Being a proud individual is never an option, it is a must whether one is
or is not in a relationship. After all, you are always in a relationship with yourself. Whether you view
these as profound or funny quotes about being single, they all make a point. Interpret it in a positive
way and live life to the fullest. And now I shall bid farewell with my favorite quote on this matter as
famously uttered by none other than the fabulous Carrie Bradshaw in "Sex and the City" (Season VI,
Episode 18 - Part II: An American Girl in Paris):
The most exciting, challenging, and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself.
And if you find someone to love the you that you love, well, that's just fabulous.
