Dear Delegates,
Welcome to Edinburgh and BEAVRS 2014.
We are delighted to welcome you to the city of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, where centuries of history meet a vibrant,
cosmopolitan city in an unforgettable setting. Edinburgh is the world’s festival capital and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The city has long been known abroad as a centre of education, particularly in the field of medicine. It is only fitting that we
meet here at the Royal College of Physicians; a unique historic venue in Edinburgh’s New Town and a building with a long
association with developing standards of medical care and training.
This year’s exciting scientific programme hopes to engage and continue the BEAVRS tradition of frank exchange and
discussion. BEAVRS aims are to encourage high quality patient care through education, research, audit and revalidation. We
hope the scientific knowledge shared at this meeting will further these aims.
We are delighted to welcome our visiting Professor Morten Dornonville de la Cour from Denmark and look forward to his
talk: “How to make the pucker patient happy”
Another highlight of the meeting will be the Gala Dinner taking place on Thursday evening at The Hub. The Hub is
Edinburgh’s iconic landmark, it towers over the heart of the world’s leading festival city, gloriously dominating the skyline
on the Royal Mile between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace. This unique and spectacular venue is a stunning
combination of award winning contemporary design and classic Victorian architecture, it is also home of the Edinburgh
International Festival.
Thank you again for your continued support and we look forward to some lively debate in the area of vitreoretinal surgery.
I wish you all a wonderful congress and hope that you enjoy your stay in Edinburgh.
Best Wishes,
Harry Bennett
