Tena Payne's line of Earthborn pottery caught the eye of Joseph Friel at a post-Katrina trade show in 2005. In 2006, Friel recognized and decided to use Earthborn pottery in his new Asian restaurant Jia at the Beau Rivage casino, choosing bowls, plates, and platters in red, opal, and sage green that made a stunning visual statement and complemented the food well. The pottery proved to be extremely robust and durable. Tena had a successful product showcase at the Beau Rivage in October 2007, and they hope to have her return in the spring.

Rooms 17 conducted a lunch box audit to see how they could reduce waste from student lunches. The audit found that some lunch boxes had excessive plastic and tin foil wrappings that could not be recycled and would end up in landfills. In contrast, happier lunch boxes used reusable containers, paper lunch wraps, bulk food repackaged into smaller reusable containers, and homemade items to reduce packaging waste. The goal was to have zero waste lunch boxes that were better for the environment.

The chef praised the plates for their appearance, durability, and handmade quality. He said the plates beautifully presented the artisanal food and created an exquisite dining experience for guests. The plates enhanced both the look of the food and the overall experience at the restaurant.
Auburn University letter of recommendation
The director of sustainability awarded the first Spirit of Sustainability Award to the former Office of Sustainability Director in front of the President's Cabinet of 30 people. When explaining the unique eagle stamp designed by Tena and the symbolic colors of blue and green on the award, the group audibly reacted with interest. The award winner loved the bowl and the director expects others will now do projects in an attempt to receive one of the bowls. The director thanks Tena and will pick up the other 11 bowls in April.

- 1. October 29, 2007 I met Tena Payne at IHMRS post Katrina, November 2005. I was looking for new products for our new restaurants. Tena’s line caught my eye instantly. In February 2006 I was working with my colleague Martin Heierling at Sensi at the Bellagio and immediately recognized Earthborn pottery. Then and there I decided to use Earthborn in Jia, our new Asian concept at Beau Rivage. I used bowls, plates and platters in red, opal and sage green. They made a stunning statement and compliment the food. They are extremely robust and durable. Tena had a successful trunk show in the shopping promenade in October.
