married a man and moved to Tomboy mine. She changed over time she lived there and she
became a stronger mountain woman through her hard ships and challenges. Through out
living in the 1900's, in a small town named tomboy, Harriet fish bacus changed from a ruky
to a true mountain woman from her hard ships.
Harriet was a tenderfoot wail baking bread. "Usually when baking day arrived no bubbles came
to greeted my gaze. The yeast would be dead and i would hurry to borrow a new start ."
Page 41. This quote show that Harriet tried but she was unsuccessful baking at high altitude.
It is harder to bake at high altitude than at sea level. She had to try over and over to get a
simple piece of bread. At one point the bread toke a loaf shape but was hollow. Coming
near the middle/end of the book Harriet developed skills to make a dinner for six.
After the troubles and challenges Harriet went through wail baking bread she managed to
makes a beautiful Thanksgiving dinner. "On the day before i really worked baking bread and
pumpkin pies, making cranberry jelly from real berries kept with difficulty from freezing,
stuffing a big turkey, making gelatin salad and ice cream served with candies." By making
such a wonderful dinner for the six of them, it shows that Harriet has become stronger in
her baking experience. Harriet went from being unable to bake bread to providing a
lugsures Thanksgiving dinner with bread and cranberry jelly and big stuffed turkey. Harriet
changed throughout the book from a awful cook the couldn't make the simplest peace of
bread to a Thanksgiving dinner for six people.
Harriet Fish Backus was a dreadful cook, unable to make a loaf of bread. However after time and
some struggles she managed to make a scrumshis Thanksgiving dinner and be a true
mountain woman at the Tomboy mine. As a result Harriet came here not even a cook at all
but over practice and time she left here a true mountain woman cook. She left here like she
had been cooking here her whole life. Throughout the 1900's Harriet Fish Backus went from
a rooky to a true mountain cook wail living up at tomboy mine.
