Bear Grylls' survival expertise and media empire are examined in the context of austerity Britain. Survivalism and prepping have proliferated in mainstream culture as economic and environmental anxieties have increased. However, true survival in austerity Britain, as depicted in a satirical article about Bear Grylls attempting to survive on an average salary in London, may be nearly impossible due to high poverty, unemployment, housing costs and income inequality exacerbated by government austerity measures.
Bear Grylls had a background in the British Special Air Service and attended the University of London before having a parachuting accident in Kenya at age 21 where his parachute failed to open. He is known for his extreme outdoor adventures and challenges such as circumnavigating the UK on a Jet Ski, crossing the North Atlantic twice, and achieving the longest indoor freefall in 2008.
Bear Grylls is an adventurer known for his survival skills. He served in the British Special Air Service and taught survival skills. Some of his accomplishments include crossing the Atlantic via the Arctic Circle and reaching the summit of Mount Everest. According to Abraham Maslow's theory of personality, Grylls likely has a realistic view of people and life, can tolerate uncertainty, has a good sense of humor, and is concerned for the welfare of others. The Big 5 Model theory may describe him as open, conscientious, extraverted, agreeable, and neurotic.

Cheerfulness in the face of adversity whilst exploring the great outdoors, i.e wade

under pressure. Be the first to understand, the first to adapt and the first to
overcome. Bear is fully supportive of the Scouts ethos to actively engage and support
