Shanay Thompson started Every Kid Fed to address childhood hunger after seeing the issues many of her at-risk student mentees faced from lack of nutrition. Her organization provides stocked pantries and boxed meals using a digital app to feed hungry students, especially during weekends and summer when school meals aren't available. Since launching a year ago, Thompson has singlehandedly managed to feed hundreds of students through two stocked pantries and aims to expand meal access further with her coding skills. She is motivated to end childhood hunger from both her experience mentoring at-risk youth and belief that many of their behavioral and academic problems stem from lack of proper nutrition.

2. The story of shanay thompson
After a successful career in the modeling industry, Thompson decided to
become a doctor. Motivated to help others, and when she got into Stanford
University, she started to mentor at-risk teens in her area. From this
volunteerism, Thompson launched Every Kid Fed.

3. What is every kid fed?
Every Child Fed (ECF) is dedicated to ending preventable child deaths caused
by malnutrition and ensuring children have the nutrition they need to
survive and thrive. Every Child Fed combines heartfelt passion for the lives
of children with a strategic commitment to business principles for
sustainable results.

4. Impact of Every Kid Fed
Ever since she launched Every Kid Fed last year,
Thompson has singlehandedly managed to
stock two pantries, feeding hundreds of
students who would go hungry. She's also not
stopping there. Currently, she is teaching
herself to code, so Every Kid Fed can provide
students with boxed meals during the summer
using a digital app.

5. WHY DID SHE CREATE EVERY KID FED?
She has one goal in mind and that is to end childhood hunger - especially in schools. She’s
been a mentor to at-risk high school students at Berkeley High for over five years - starting as
a college student at UC Berkeley. She’s noticed that many of the behavioral, academic and
health issues students experience, stem from hunger and poor nutrition. There are children
who use the free/reduced breakfast and lunch program, but portions may not be enough to
sustain throughout the day, and many children struggle to eat after school, on weekends, and
school breaks. After learning all of this she felt compelled to take action and be part of the
solution
