Project work:
“Study of performance and emission characteristics of diesel engine running on blends of
custard apple seeds oil biodiesel and neat diesel oil”
Description:
The world’s rapidly dwindling petroleum supplies, their raising cost and the growing danger of
environmental pollution from these fuels have led to an intensive search for an alternative fuels.
Among the alternate fuels, non edible vegetable oils are one of the renewable types for use in
diesel engines. Custard apple seed oil, a non edible type is used in our project work for
investigation of its suitability for use in diesel engine. Engine tests have been carried out with the
aim of obtaining performance and emission charectaristics such as brake thermal efficiency, brake
specific fuel consumption ,CO and unburnt hydrocarbons to evaluate the behavior of the diesel
engine running on custard apple seed biodiesel and its blends 10%,20%,30% and 40% with diesel.
From the obtained readings, the conclusions are
• The BSFC&BTE is higher than the diesel oil.
• The harmful emissions like CO,NOX,SOX,CO2 are very much lesser than that for neat
diesel oil
