Karco Engineering is an independent crash testing laboratory certified by the U.S. Department of State. On April 20th, 2004, Karco performed crash testing for Infrastructure Defense Technologies using a 15,000 pound truck traveling at 50 mph into one of their Metalith barriers. The truck cab was destroyed on impact but the Metalith wall did not move or penetrate more than 48 inches, allowing the barrier to become certified as K12 by the Department of State.

Karco Engineering is an independent test laboratory, certified by the U.S. Department of State, providing:

Clients include the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), foreign and domestic vehicle manufacturers, equipment suppliers, insurance companies,

For certification, accident simulation, research and development it is necessary to provide independent testing and evaluation to guarantee the integrity of the test
results. Karco routinely performs crash testing for certification by the U.S. Department of State.

3. On April 20th, 2004 Infrastructure Defense Technologies utilized Karco Engineering's expertise to perform a U.S. Department of State K12 crash test using a 15,000 pound truck traveling at 50 mph
down a 900 foot concrete runway into a standard Metalith™ barrier that was 40-feet long, 10-feet high, and 8-feet thick impacting the wall at a 90°
angle.
The truck cab was completely destroyed, the Metalith wall, as a unit, moved 0 inches, and penetration by the truck bed was negative 48 inches!
Subsequent to the testing performed by Karco Engineering, Infrastructure Defense Technologies Metalith barrier wall was certified as a K12 product by
the U.S. Department of State.

Department of State (DOS) Crash Test Certification
Prior to Department of State (DOS) certification, vehicle barriers must be tested by an independent crash test facility to meet DOS standards.

To become certified with a Department of State "K" rating the 15,000 vehicle must achieve one of the K rating speeds (50 mph, 40 mph, or 30 mph) and the bed of the truck must not penetrate the
barrier by more than 36 inches.
The DOS has awarded contracts subject to this qualification or earlier versions of this qualification requirement since fiscal year 2000.

4. When a product is submitted for department of State qualification testing, the product manufacturer must provide any information that may be requested of the manufacturer before testing will
begin. The manufacturer must arrange, schedule, and pay for the independent testing. Independent testing facilities are approved by the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, Physical Security Programs,
Physical Security Division (DS/PSP/PSD). Certification testing must be witnessed by a member of the DS/PSP/PSD.
