Cakes are a sweet baked food made from dough or batter that usually contains flour, sugar, and often shortening, eggs, and a raising agent. There are different basic types of cakes including batter cakes with fats, sponge cakes without fats, and chiffon cakes which contain liquids and fats making them richer resembling sponge cakes. Cakes also come in different forms such as layer cakes baked in shallow pans, loaf cakes baked in loaf pans and sliced, sheet cakes baked in a large shallow pan and cut into pieces, and cupcakes baked in muffin pans lined with paper cups.
