He graduated from Madras Medical College in 1943 where he was the best outgoing student. In 1949, he went to Newcastle upon Tyne, UK and obtained his FRCS in neurosurgery in just 6 weeks. He started the first neurosurgery unit in India on October 24, 1950 at Madras Medical College. He helped establish neurosurgery as a separate department and was proud to serve as a Brigadier in the Indian Army. Lt Col McRobert made many contributions to neurosurgery in India through teaching, research, and public education over his long and distinguished career.
