2. big heart This slideshow contains a few of the items I have been working on lately. BIG HEART was done with a piece of 16 gauge brass. After creating the pattern, I transferred it onto the brass heart, then cut out the lines and leaves with a thin jeweler’s saw blade. A hammering process forced the piece into a more concaved shape. Afterwards, it was sanded and polished repeatedly.
3. lettering & textures Metal stamps are becoming a big part of my designing process. They enable me to create textures and/or lettering on different parts of the metal.
4. Antiqued Brass Although I don’t use them a lot, the new antiqued brass elements are very popular this year. I used some of them for this necklace, then attached tortoise shell beads with a wire wrapping method.
5. piercing & cutting techniques To cut out spaces within a design, a tiny hole must be drilled in the metal through which one end of a small saw blade is inserted. The blade is then reattached to the saw frame for cutting. It is delicate and time consuming work, but the dimension it adds to a design is worth the effort.
