How the Bosch Group is making use of OSGi for IoT - Kai Hackbarthmfrancis
OSGi Community Event 2016 Presentation by Kai Hackbath (Bosch Software Innovations GmbH)
In February 2015 the Bosch Group acquired ProSyst Software as part of its IoT strategy. For Bosch Software Innovations, the Bosch Group’s software and systems house, OSGi offers the right balance between flexibility and hardware cost for IoT gateways. There is currently no other technology for IoT gateways that is both more future-proof and more mature than OSGi. In this presentation we want to give an overview of what has been achieved since then, looking at how the ProSyst’s OSGi technology has been integrated into the comprehensive Bosch IoT Suite as well as the Bosch IoT Cloud. We will also present a number of other IoT initiatives in the Bosch group, including smart home and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) where OSGi is already being used. Additionally we will give an outlook on future activities in IoT including our plans in standardization and open source initiatives.

stackconf 2022: Data Management in Kubernetes – Backup, DR, HANETWAYS
Kubernetes is everywhere now, right? You see how companies are embracing this technology more and more, it’s like the Kardashians or Rosalía or TikTok; MAINSTREAM! BUT, as companies evolve and grow their container environments, they realize that stateful apps require more than a robust Kubernetes distribution, data is the key of their apps. Applications are as important as the data that they use. Managing 1M bank transactions is not the same as using bridge images, so you have to be very careful on how you control and use that data. Portworx is here to help with those problems. In this session, we will see how Portworx is able to manage volumes in the cloud with Kubernetes in seconds AND migrate that data from cluster to cluster in minutes, even a Disaster Recovery environment with ZERO data loss and NO downtime. Connecting low-power devices to the cloud with Amazon FreeRTOS BLE - SVC206 -...Amazon Web Services
Connecting low-power, microcontroller-based devices, such as appliances, smart meters, and industrial equipment, to the cloud enables data collection and analysis and remote updates to deployed devices. Often, these devices need to cost-effectively connect to a mobile device via Bluetooth Low Energy for provisioning, reading, and security, but this can be challenging. In this session, we dive deep into how the Amazon FreeRTOS microcontroller operating system makes it easy to program, deploy, secure, connect, and manage small, low-power edge devices. You learn how to authenticate microcontroller devices with iOS and Android devices and to monitor, manage, and update firmware using the over-the-air update functionality in AWS IoT Device Management.

"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

7. Why VNAs?
Copyright: FlytBase, Inc. | 2020
7
● Very Narrow Aisles (VNAs) are commonly used in
large warehouses and distribution centers where
space is at a premium.
● VNAs can be as narrow as 5 feet and the
corresponding racks can be taller than 40 feet.
● VNAs are ideally suited for single-deep pallets
and/or one-deep case reserve.
● They offer direct access to the storage locations
and thus enable quick, flexible, and dense
inventory storage.
8. Traditional (Wide) Aisles VNAs
Most common type of rack configuration in
warehouses.
A relatively new type of storage layout,
especially in large/urban warehouses and DCs.
Typical aisle width of 9 feet or more. Typical aisle width of 6 feet, sometimes as
narrow as 5 feet.
Can be one-deep or multi-deep (pushbacks). Always one-deep.
Best for inventory storage where multiple
workers or standard forklifts need to operate.
Requires specially-designed forklifts to
putaway/pick pallets.
Prioritizes cost of equipment and trained
personnel over space utilization.
Prioritizes space utilization and quick inventory
access over upfront investment.

10. Worker Safety Concerns

10
20,000 workers are injured in forklift
accidents each year and 25 percent of
those accidents happen when a forklift
overturns.
According to the National Safety Council,
the average direct cost to a company for
worker injury is $38,000 and $150,000 in
indirect costs.
12. Warehouse Inventory Counts
Stocktaking is a core operation for manufacturing businesses, third party logistics
companies, and other supply chain stakeholders.
