- Autobiographies are written by and about REAL people. What they write about is true. The book will be all about their life. It will let you get to know a lot about them. They are great ways to find out facts about people that you look up to and admire. They will tell you why they made choices in their life, and simple things that they do daily. Autobiographies are fun and interesting to read. Some may not be. As we look on the screen we see Malcom X and Anne Frank who had several hard times in their lives. But we see Miley Cyrus and Justin Beiber who you see on TV everyday. They will tell you how they became famous, what they like to do, and much more. There are several Autobiographies available for you to read. Whether you are interested in science, politics, sports, or whatever! You can read about the important people.
- So the following slides you are going to see are going to be topics that you are going to include in your Autobiography. We are going to work together in class, during writer's workshop to complete a whole book about yourself. This way your classmates and myself will be able to get to know you!
- An important thing to tell your readers is when you were born. If you give this information you will also let them know how old you are. It is neat to include where you were born as well. The more information you give the reader, the better!
- Family plays a big role in your life. They are people that have taken care of you and see you everyday. I want to know about them. What are they like and who do you live with? Your family doesn’t have to be your mom and dad, it can be whoever takes care of you, such as your aunt or uncle, grandma or grandpa!
- Where do you live? Where have you grown up? Maybe you lived in a city in an apartment, or maybe you lived in the suburbs in a house. Everyone is different.
- What do you do for fun. I know that sports is really popular in kids. Some kids play sports, some kids like racing and some like Karate. There are so many activities I want to know what you do. What do you think Michael Jordan liked to do when he was little? What about Tiger Woods?
- Sports are not the only things that keep children entertained. Some people like to cheer, or dance, sing or act. Who knows? Whatever you like to do can be what you become famous for one day, then you can write an autobiography for the world to read!
- This topic is one that not all of you will write about. Some of you go to church everyday, some every Sunday, some Saturdays, and some never which is fine. I would just like to know about your life and religion is part of that. Do any of you go to church? If so would you like to share with the class what it is like before you write about it.
- Where was the most enjoyable place you have been to? Who did you go with? What did you do?
- Have you ever traveled? If so where did you go and why did you go there? Was it a vacation, or maybe to visit family?
- Read Slide and Answer Questions.
- What do you think that this slide is asking you to remember to put in your Autobiography? Pets! Do/did you have any? What is their name, and what are they? What do you do with them?
- This slide is showing something else that people are interested about when it comes to your life. Who has a good guess? Good, friends, why are friends important? In your writing I want you to tell me about your best friend. You can also tell me about friends that you have at school. Friend are important because they have a great impact in your life. Tell me why your friends are your friends. What makes them special to you? What do you guys do together?
- I have created a very short example of an autobiography just to give you guys an example of what I am expecting of you in this assignment. Now, you will be writing your autobiography, you will not be creating it on the computer. But you will be able to use this presentation for help. We will pull up the slides that we will create every day and you will be able to look at it for ideas. After viewing my autobiography you will know about me. What made it an autobiography is that I wrote it. Hope you enjoy it!
- In my autobiography that I write during writer’s workshop, I may include my mom and dad’s names, or even what my sister does for fun. I want you to give me as much information as you can as you tell about people in your life. Make your writing detailed and interesting. Leave the reader with no questions.
- Who can figure out what these sentences say before the picture appears? Lets try it together! I like to do many things and I'm sure you do as well, but we do not have a whole year to write about everything. So what I want you to do is to pick out your absolute favorite activities. These will help show your personality. Does anyone know what a personality is?
- This was just a fun random facts page. Asking where your favorite place you have been allows the reader to explore your life. It helps with you telling stories so the reader can get to know you better. And I figured since we eat everyday, that’s important to write about. Plus I can learn about all of your different cultures. Although I am Hispanic I still enjoy french fries and pizza! What about you? Lets Share!
- This is my dog Toby. He is a crazy dog. He is always begging for food and loves walk. Knowing about your animals is a fun topic! When you write about it I want you to be detailed. Toby is fluffy, snow white, has dark brown eyes, little pink paws and a purple collar. (and yes he is a boy) I just used 8 detailed words how many can you use?
- Finally, I want you to include the happiest/most successful day in your life. Mine is all about school because that is how I was able to be here with you. Without it I would not have been able to become your teacher. Maybe you can even include something we already covered in an earlier lesson, but what do you want to be when you grow up and why?
