Site analytics. The quantified self. Big data. Human activity is creating more and more measurable data. But is more data really helping designers make better decisions? Human problems often require illogical approaches. In order to meet real human needs, we need to approach the data we collect with empathy and find the story in the facts.

Critical pedagogy: education in the practice of freedomAlan Carbery
Slides from a talk at the Vermont Library Association College & Special Libraries Conference, October 2015. Abstract: Our presentation focuses on the use of primary sources in library instruction to inspire students to think around issues of injustice and oppression. Following remarks on our chapter-in-progress for a book on Critical Library Instruction, the session will be devoted to introducing/discussing Critical Pedagogy and its influence on library instruction. Because Critical Pedagogy is dependent upon decentering the lecturer in favor of a participatory and community-driven style of learning, we hope this session can act as a forum for our colleagues to share ways in which they’ve incorporated facets of Critical Pedagogy into their instructional practice, ask questions about Critical Library Instruction, and offer any critiques they have of Critical Pedagogy/Critical Library Instruction. Delivered with Sean Leahy, Instruction & Learning Assessment Librarian, Champlain College.
Your website's users want to get stuff done, and you probably aren't making it easy for them. When users encounter forms with unnecessary steps, content that requires too many clicks to access, or things that just don't make sense, they often give up. In this talk, you’ll see some practical examples of sites that do a good job of making interactions and content easy to follow and understand, and you'll learn how to help your users get to where they want to be without annoying them on the way there.
Presented in 2016 at ConFoo.
How can you and your organization demonstrate positive elearning return on investment (ROI)? Find out in this guide, which describes six key strategies.

Breaking the rules is easy. Doing the deed in a strategic manner is another thing entirely. However, a little bit of skill is all a designer needs to make a design really stand out without stepping on the toes of conventional digital wisdom.
Which rules do you break without compromising your aesthetic hutzpah? Do you want to learn how? This slide deck reveals all.
Designing with Empathy [Code & Creativity 2014]Aaron Gustafson
Every decision we make affects the way real people experience our products.
We've all heard the rallying cry for user-centered design, but even those of us who ascribe to that ideal often fall back on our own biases and instincts when it comes to making decisions about how people experience our content and our services.
Sadly, this often means we make decisions we think will be good for our “users” - that anonymous, faceless crowd - rather than actually trying to understand the perspectives, surroundings, capabilities, and disadvantages of the actual people who we are here to serve.
In this session, Aaron will explore why empathy is a good thing, how empathy empowers creativity, and how we, as a community, can inject more empathy into our work.
Whether you are writing an email, drafting an office memo or just chatting with your coworkers, using words incorrectly can make you look bad.
Here’s some help.

Norman suggests that when using a product, our emotional state affects the utility we derive and our experience. People in positive emotional states are prone to be more creative since their thinking is more expansive and helps them in finding alternatives to the problem at hand.
A negative or stressful emotional state constricts perception and narrows down our focus to quickly find a resolution–that’s how nature has programmed us to deal with threats.
Here is a breakdown of the three levels of design and how they translate to good design:

Expansion in tuition, enrollment, faculty, buildings, and everything else ― is fast becoming a thing of the past. Institutions will have to carefully pick initiatives, making clear choices about what to do and, most significantly, what not to do. Download 2016 State of higher education >> http://gt-us.co/1UbUF56
What does the future look like? Is it a dark space where we’re suffering from varying degrees of techamphetamine or are we heading towards a Utopian fantasy of abundance and harmony?
Understanding that our basic human needs and wants barely change, we explore the future state of a range of topics; from our need for physical sustenance through to our age-long fascination of transcending the limitations of our biology.
Looking at the future from a human perspective, our potential for greatness is teetering on a fine line between darkness and hope. We’re banking on the latter.

3. Polyhedron Habitable –
Your Sound
Galaxy.
http://nanoworld88.narod.ru/data/353.htm
Your
Sound Galaxy.
