The new suite of emergency services under Audi connect will provide a human touch.
Audi recently announced that it selected SiriusXM™ to power a premium suite of services such as automatic crash notification,
as part of the new generation of its connectivity suite, beginning in the 2017 Audi Q7. The SUV is expected to go on sale in early
2016. The service will be available on vehicles with the Audi connect Gen 2 system, which also includes the upcoming 2017 A4
and other models. Packaging will vary by vehicle.
The service will add the potential for helpful and soothing human intervention in emergencies, along with the state-of-the-art
automated approach that has made Audi connect one of the most effective platforms in the industry.
Specifically, Sirius XM™ Connected Vehicle Services will provide Audi connect Emergency Response as part of the SOS call in
Audi vehicles. That will include automatic notification of an airbag deployment. Sirius XM™ will manage the situation in the
vehicle with the customer and coordinate the 911 response. Customers also will be able to request emergency assistance
manually by pressing the SOS button in the overhead console in the case of an injury or other health situation.
Audi selected Sirius XM™ because of its premium “two-agent” model. In any emergency scenario, the person calling from the
Audi automobile is kept on the phone with an operator while a second operator takes necessary steps to help those in the vehicle,
such as summoning emergency medical aid. The Audi owner can also use the new Audi connect platform to reach out to Sirius
XM™ if the vehicle is stolen. This allows the owner to file a police report quickly while the service keeps track of the vehicle
and helps law enforcement officers find it.
In addition to the services supported by Sirius XM, the new Audi connect suite of services will allow Audi owners to request
roadside assistance, obtain service reminders, and remotely manage their vehicles, such as by locking and unlocking doors using
an app on their smart phones or watches.
